Tour Overview
The Turquoise Trail goes through downtown Tucson highlighting structures and sites of historic interest. It is marked by a turquoise stripe on the sidewalk, and directions are also included in this tour. Many of the stops on the trail are marked with a historical plaque that provides additional information.
Designed as a loop, the Turquoise Trail is approximately 2.5-miles in length and takes approximately two hours to complete. It can also be walked in segments, and the entire trail is wheelchair/scooter acessible.
More than 30 restaurants and shops are located along the trail or within a few blocks, providing plenty of opportunities for a break or a meal. Stops along the way are marked with a turquoise pin. Views from the trail are marked with a blue pin and are optional additions to the trail.
If walking the entire trail, it is best to begin at the first stop, Presidio San Agustín del Tucson, a reconstruction of a portion of the Tucson Presidio (fort) that was originally built in 1775. The Museum is located on the northeast corner of the original Presidio site, and the other tour in this app provides a free tour of the museum (admission fee required), discussing the history of the Presidio and what life was like for its residents. Make sure to visit the museum before or after you walk the Turquoise Trail to get a fuller understanding of Tucson's history.
