"Sleeping Woman" Range

The distinctive Black Hills, known locally as the Sleeping Woman, crosses the road about 42km west of Jervois Station. Can you spot the Sleeping Woman?

Jervois Station & Plenty River Crossing

The Plenty River crossing is about 6km west of Jervois Station homestead and campground.The Plenty River basin drains a relatively large catchment to the north and flows into the Simpson Desert, where it peters out. Note the majestic river gums that thrive along the riverbed, a welcome contrast to the expansive grassy mulga plains.Jervois Station, 1km to the north of the Plenty Highway, provides a wonderful friendly refuge in the pastoral country. Jervois provides fuel, camping, toilets and a small shop (cash required as there’s no ATM facility). The camp site is in a nice shady riverside setting with large ghost gums as features. There is a couple of cabins- but book ahead to get a bed. There are a few interesting artefacts of the Woomera rockets near the shop. Next stop only 222km - Tobermorey.

Bonya Community

Bonya is 20km east of Jervois Station and 10km north of the Plenty Highway.Bonya is a small Eastern Arrente Aboriginal community, located approximately 400km from Alice Springs along the Plenty Highway. 15km from Jervois Station to the north of the Plenty Highway.Here you will find a store, that can be opened up for travellers . Ph: (08) 8956 6366.Other facilities at Bonya include internet, phone box, local health clinic and airstrip. Car parts are also available, as well as a bush mechanics who can assist with emergency repairs.There is also a playground.

Tobermorey Station to Northern Territory/Queensland Border

Tobermorey is a working cattle station and the yards are near the campground. So you may be lucky enough to see the helicopters starting up, or the line of road trains loading or unloading cattle in the yards.Tobermorey Station offers a very comfy campground area with picnic tables, shady area, and loo block. Fuel/ snacks and souvenirs. (07) 4748 4996The Northern Territory/Queensland Border is only 5km from Tobermory. Look for the Surveyor mark and the signs.
