Tour Overview
The stretch of the Plenty Highway between Atitjere (Harts Range) and Tobermorey Station, near the Northern Territory–Queensland border, offers an ever-changing kaleidoscope of colour and texture. Whether you’re heading east or west, the landscape shifts subtly—inviting you to slow down and take it all in.
Between Atitjere and Jervois Station, the route is remote and peaceful, with only a few key points of interest—but each one worth the stop:
-
Look for the start or finish of the Outback Way Outdoor Gallery, showcasing large-scale local artworks.
-
Visit the Bonya Community (check accessibility in advance).
-
Pull into Jervois Station for fuel, light snacks, and a break in this isolated outpost.
The country around Harts Range is defined by open, scrubby woodlands, featuring groves of bloodwood, coolabah, and tall acacias, especially along dry riverbeds like the Plenty River, which runs just north of the highway.
At the eastern end of this section, Tobermorey Station provides essential services including fuel, tyre repairs, and light refreshments—a welcome stop before continuing your journey into or out of Queensland.
