Tour Overview

Towns such as Solomon Hill never existed prior to 1922. As former Quaker residents were forced to leave their neighborhood, they were also forced to relocate and restart from the ground up, naming their new home “Solomon Hill.”

This neighborhood community was created in 1922-23 as the Black enclave of Quaker was forced to relocate. The residents of Quaker named their new neighborhood Solomon Hill and the park they created along the creek bank Phoenix Park to signify their rebirth of their neighborhood. Many of the original homes were moved overnight from Quaker to the site purchased by these new residents.
