The Burruss Beaver mascot was selected because beavers were found on the property when construction began. Our current MCS Teacher of the Year, Barbie Esquijarosa, teaches at A.L. Burruss.

Originally serving grades 1-8, it was built as an open concept school with breezeways forming the halls to the classrooms. Hickory Hills was the first elementary school to integrate in 1966.
