The St. George’s Town, was founded in 1612 soon after the 1609 Sea Venture’s wreck on Bermuda’s reefs. In 1609, Admiral Sir George Somers and the first colonists & two dogs landed is now well known as Gate’s Bay or Fort St. Catherine Beach.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and the UNESCO World Heritage Committee; collectively identified The Historic Town of St. George’s and related fortifications as a World Heritage Site and Diaspora Trail.
