Tour Overview
HAMILTON + ST.GEORGE'S
The St. Georgeās Town, was founded in 1612 soon after the 1609 Sea Ventureās wreck on Bermudaās reefs. In 1609, Admiral Sir George Somers, the first colonists & a dog landed on the beach now well known as Gateās Bay or Fort St. Catherine Beach.
The City of Hamilton was named after Sir Henry Hamilton in 1793, he served as Governor of Bermuda from 1788 to 1794. People in the Town of St. George, then the capital, objected to the new upstart town, but the governor felt it made sense to have a town in the centre of the island.
