Tour Overview
ST.GEORGE'S + HAMILTON
The St. George’s Town, was founded in 1612 soon after the 1609 Sea Venture’s wreck on Bermuda’s reefs. In 1609, Admiral Sir George Somers and the first colonists & a dogs landed is now well known as Gate’s Bay or Fort St. Catherine Beach.
Founded in 1793, the City of Hamilton was named after Sir Henry Hamilton, who served as Governor of Bermuda until 1794. People in the Town of St. George, then the capital, objected to the new upstart town, but the governor felt it made sense to have a town in the centre of the island.
