Penn Alps
Penn Alps was founded by Alta Schrock in 1958 to provide a market for local cottage industry and preserve the area's cultural heritage. The restaurant and craft shop are housed in what was once Little Crossings Inn, a log stagecoach stop on the National Road. Penn Alps boasts that they are the last hospitality house on the National Road to still serve the traveler.Penn Alps Restaurant offers a varied menu, including its well-known daily soup and salad bar and weekend buffets. The German ancestry of the Amish and Mennonite charter members of this non-profit organization is reflected in many entrees on the menu.Penn Alps Craft Shop features the work of craftsmen from the tri-state area. Spruce Forest Artisan Village
Spruce Forest Artisan Village was founded by Alta Schrock to support local craftsmen and preserve western Maryland's local arts and crafts tradition. At Spruce Forest Artisan Village, regional artists sell and showcase their work and interact with visitors in studios housed in historic log cabins. Grantsville Community Museum
A centerpiece of the Grantsville Community Museum collection is the stunning photographic legacy of Leo Beachy, a poet and photographer recording local history from 1905-1927. The photographs in the collection range from individual studio portraits to beautiful and expansive landscapes. Garrett County Historical Society and Museum - Arts and Recreations Room
The Arts and Recreation Room of the Garrett County Historical Society and Museum takes the visitor back to the time of ol' Opry houses and boy's bands. At the time of the Depression, almost every town in Garrett County had a boy's band where young men were given the opportunity to learn an instrument and to socialize. Mountain Lake Park Historic District
Mountain Lake Park was founded in the 1880's as a summer resort and center of the Methodist Chautauqua movement in Maryland. The Mountain Lake Historic District includes many houses in the Country Gothic and Royal Queen Anne styles that were built by summer residents in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
