Lupe I Vao Ese
Lupe I Vao Ese invites you to explore measina, the cultural treasures of Moana Oceania. These treasures are more than objects; they are living expressions of memory, identity, and connection. The title, derived from Gagana Samoa, translates to “doves in different pastures.” It serves as a poetic metaphor for how measina travel across time and space, carried by Pasifika communities as they move, adapt, and thrive in new environments.
This exhibition centres indigenous ways of knowing and being. Rather than presenting measina as relics of the past, it reveals them as dynamic and evolving forms. In a world shaped by migration, climate change, and cultural shifts, Lupe I Vao Ese uplifts measina as living narrators of their own journeys, carrying the voices of ancestors into the present and beyond.
