#12 on the BrochureArtists showing at: 64-A Swamp Rd, Little Compton, RI 02837Peter AldrichAUGUST 16 &17 OnlyOIL ON CANVAS/CHARCOAL ON PAPER: Representational paintings, including portraits, baseball and landscapespcaldrich@me.comhttps://www.peter-aldrich.com401-635-8816I paint what I see. I paint for myself. I have neither message nor mission. I do attempt in my painting to capture a moment in time, of my own vision of the world as I see and feel it. If I am fortunate in a work, I also manage to evoke in turn for the viewer some feelings or recognition. I strive for visual clarity that hopefully incorporates some subtle ambiguity of tone or mood."The Barn" is at the top of a very long tree-lined driveway that goes up the side of a pasture. Please park in the field south of the structure._____________Karen MelansonAUGUST 16 &17 OnlyPASTEL: Colorful paintings of waves, seashore, marshes, flowers and sunsetskarenm133@gmail.comhttps://www.karenmelanson.comKaren is inspired by the natural surroundings of the South Coast area where she grew up. Her goal is to bring the feeling of being in those fabulous places to others... to a place of happiness, peace, joy and solitude.

#18 Mary Ellen Flinn

#18 on the BrochureArtist showing at: Early Time Carving 273 Long Hwy, Little Compton, RI 02837Mary Ellen FlinnAUGUST 16 & 17 OnlyACRYLICS/WOOD/ANTIQUE FRAGMENTS: Folk art inspired carved and painted sculptures using found objects embeddedetcarving@cox.netThe artist’s work is clearly inspired by early American folk artists. The ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness involved in their creations was endless. Some pieces were carved by highly skilled artists and others by the untrained. Regardless of the skill level, the shared need to create shines through.Mary Ellen is self taught having taken up woodcarving in midlife. A quick tutorial provided her with the basics regarding wood properties, hand carving tools and simple carving techniques. Then she on her own. When she begins a new piece it starts with a vague idea of what she is envisioning. She explained that it could have been inspired by just about anything, a color, a random piece of wood, an antique fragment, a broken tree branch, a pattern in a paper bag, etc. After more thought the idea begins to gel.Her woods vary from freshly cut to reclaimed wood from antique furniture pieces. She favors sugar pine. Colors are influenced by those used in early German Pennsylvania fracture. The colors exude a sense if warmth. She uses acrylic paints and early decorative painting techniques. A finished piece incorporates wood and paint along with the antique fragments integral to each piece. Her work tends to slant towards whimsy. She has said that she knows when a piece is complete when it brings it brings her to a smile. However, she feels the true sign is when an observer looks at the piece with appreciation.On-street parking in front of the property, then a short walk to the studio.

Her artistic expression is a testament to a lifelong affinity for the shore, stemming from an early passion for beachcombing and collecting. Over decades, she has curated a trove of weather-worn objects drawn to the colors, textures, and patterns shaped by nature. Inspired by the stunning beauty and intricate details carved by sun, wind, water, and time — her art encapsulates the endless variety of objects the region’s coastline offers. Each piece embodies her meticulous craftsmanship, incorporating shells, driftwood, sea glass, pottery shards, seaweed, bones, and other found objects. Nadine’s exploration extends beyond the tangible elements. She delves into the nuances of negative space, juxtaposition, scale, and the subtle interplay of texture, shadow, and colors. Her assemblages are a visual mosaic reflecting New England’s raw coastal beauty. What she finds most interesting is how the power of nature can turn everyday objects, left or lost by humans, into equally beautiful objects worthy of our attention. She hopes her viewers will study her assemblages up close and recognize the beauty of seemingly ordinary objects that often go unnoticed in our busy day-to-day lives.Nadine will have her curated collection of shoreline materials on display and will be working on a collage throughout the weekend! The studio is located at the top of Adamsville Hill on OLD Stone Church Road in a two story house with shell driveway and window boxes. She uses only paper and glue; she does not use paint on any of her montages. These take hours, sometimes months to complete depending on size and subject. A trained oil painter with a certificate in Painting and Drawing from RISD in 2010, Galen continues to move forward in her montage creations, continually teaching herself new techniques to grow and improve her art on a regular basis. Without this organization and these mentors, she knows she'd still be trying to figure it ALL out!Galen has a 'stream of consciousness' approach to demos.
