Shelburne Harbour, purported to be the 3rd best natural harbour in the world, lies to the west, nearly 16 kilometers (10 miles) from the open Atlantic Ocean. The District covers nine blocks with Dock Street's Lanes connecting eastward to Water Street. Historic Dock Street takes you back in time with its remarkable heritage buildings spanning nearly Two and a Half centuries. British Engineers designed the Shelburne's grid layout which, for a brief moment in time, was home to as many as 16,000 souls, making it the 3rd or 4th largest City in all Canada and Contental USA.
