Tour Overview
Discover the royal route through Apeldoorn with the new immersive cycling tour Royal Ride.
The route partly follows the former railway line known as the “Koningslijn” (King’s Line). In 1876, King Willem III connected this line to Apeldoorn—partly for his own convenience (so he no longer had to take a carriage from Palace Het Loo to Arnhem), but also in support of the growing village. Until 1950, royals such as Queen Regent Emma and Queen Wilhelmina traveled along this line.
The Royal Ride starts at the artwork “De Kus” (The Kiss) on Apeldoorn’s station square and takes you via surprising stops, scenic viewpoints, and royal landmarks to Palace Het Loo. From there, you cycle back toward the city centre. Along the way, you’ll hear stories about the history of the Dutch royal family in Apeldoorn.
After completing the Royal Ride, you can park your bike for free at the supervised bicycle parking facility on Paslaan. Nearby, you’ll find plenty of cafés and restaurants to relax and enjoy a well-deserved break.
For the best experience, bring a phone holder for your bike and your earphones!
