Beaver Lake Nature Center
Beaver Lake Nature Center, located just outside of Syracuse in Baldwinsville, is a natural haven spanning over 600 acres of diverse habitats. This serene sanctuary features nine miles of maintained trails that meander through forests, wetlands, and along the shores of Beaver Lake, offering an immersive experience in nature. The center provides ample opportunities for bird watching, hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing and more, making it a year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Educational programs and guided tours further enrich the visitor experience, highlighting the ecological significance and natural beauty of this pristine area.This picturesque nature center transforms into a winter wonderland. During the winter, certain trails are designated for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. You must bring your own cross-country skis, but snowshoes are available to rent at the Visitors Venter. Once the city's original town center, Clinton Square is home to a stunning fountain park where the Erie Canal once ran through. Erie Canal Museum
The Erie Canal Museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the Erie Canal, emphasizing its significant impact on the region and beyond. The museum is housed in the 1850 National Register Weighlock Building, the last of its kind, offering visitors interactive exhibits and original artifacts that illustrate the canal's story. They are open seven days a week with free admission (donations appreciated).Even in winter, the museum takes visitors back to a time when the Erie Canal was a bustling trade route. It features a full-size replica canal boat, historical artifacts, and exhibits showcasing the canal's impact on people and landscapes. Additionally, the museum is home to a Gingerbread Gallery around the holidays and houses the Syracuse Heritage Area Visitor Center, which offers a walking tour of downtown Syracuse (that is, if it isn’t too cold).
Greek Peak Mountain Resort
Greek Peak Mountain Resort, the largest ski resort in Central New York, offers a fantastic winter experience with 55 trails, six aerial lifts, and two surface lifts. Highland Forest is a stunning county park located just southeast of Syracuse. This expansive park offers a variety of outdoor activities throughout the year, including hiking and mountain biking on its extensive trail system. In the winter, the park transforms into a haven for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing enthusiasts. Take advantage of over 40 miles of cross-country ski trails, 20 of which are groomed for all ability levels. The forest offers ski, boot, pole and snowshoe rentals. If you are looking to take it easy, enjoy a classic, horse-drawn sleigh or wagon right through the enchanting forest. You can also take advantage of the 300’ sledding hill free of charge!

Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology
The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) is a hub for scientific exploration and education. Founded to inspire and encourage a love for science, the museum offers 35,000 square feet of interactive exhibits and engaging programming. The MOST features the impressive National Grid Exploradome, a domed theater for immersive films and planetarium shows, and showcases numerous permanent and temporary exhibits that cover topics ranging from earth sciences to technology and everything in between.In the winter months, the MOST is a great (and warm!) destination for learning.
