Bardens Bar (since 1937) is conveniently located on State Street in Waseca. It presides in the former Security State Bank building and has preserved much of its historical charm with it's 18 foot high ceiling, 12 x 20 foot stain glass skylight and 7 matching front facing windows. The (art deco period) Brunswick front and back bar with matching booth set adds to its appeal. The Bardens opened and ran this business until 1965 when Dick Wendland and Dick Hayes partnered up and purchased this landmark. Richard (Ivory Dick) bought it outright and the bar remains in the Wendland family to date. One can stop in for a cold beer, cocktail, and/or a pizza and be a part of it's history. Play a game of pool or darts. If gambling is what is on your mind Bardens has 7 pull tab boxes and electronic pulltab machines as well. One can park out front or enjoy the off street parking behind the building and its rear entrance. Mike’s love for the science and art of creating good beer was apparent from the beginning. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, he was surrounded by craft beer and the king of the IPA…hops. The idea of starting his own brewery had been discussed but felt impossible in the Portland, OR area due to the huge wave of craft breweries opening.

After much consideration and the promise of a new job opportunity for his wife Amy, they moved east to Minnesota where craft beer was just starting to take off. They landed in Waseca and bought a property with enough room to have a brewery and tap room along with land for growing hops. With a lot of support, encouragement and a great deal of patience, Half Pint Brewing Company is up and running!

We are thrilled to be able to bring high quality, interesting craft brews, using as many local ingredients as we can from Southern Minnesota.

Experienced restaurateurs Oscar and his wife, Maru, have been running the popular “El Molino” restaurant in Waseca, Minnesota for nine years. Their desire to keep making Waseca residents and visitors happy about food options in town made them think seriously about how to help increase the choices in early 2017.

“We wanted to give people more options than just fast food,” says Maru, as answer to why start another restaurant? The successful Mexican food restaurant they own and run has options for a variety of tastes, but the couple felt after visiting a variety of restaurants on their own that maybe focusing on a more “American Taste” menu would be the way to go. So, they spent months compiling a list of items they would like, and felt would be a hit to their customers.

Oscar’s opened in the winter of 2017, and already Oscar and Maru are ready to start making changes, adding more options to the menu, and continuing to listen to their customers. They plan to gather customer testimonials to find out what people like, create contests to encourage patrons to take photos at the restaurant with their favorite dishes, and fortunately for the people of Waseca, they plan to stay and keep making great food everyone enjoys almost as much as a nice chat with either one of them when they have the time to pause. Oscar and Maru, along with their friendly staff, always enjoy time with their customers, who have welcomed their spin on tasty dishes for almost a decade.

Dale and Cindy Wegner opened their first Pizza place at 2nd Ave NE in Waseca, MN on November 7, 1968 and named it the “Pizza Parlor.” They stayed at that location until 1973, when Dale had the current building built.

The brick from the 2nd Ave. street was put into the entryway and hall, which you see now. The stained glass window in the upper and lower dining areas
are original from the first location and so are the tin lights in the corner by the fireplace.

In 1982, the restaurant name was changed to “Yellow Mushroom Restaurant,” because of its yellow roof. Dale and Cindy felt it was time to appeal to a more diverse customer base by expanding the menu and be known as not just a “pizza place,” but a family restaurant. Also added in the 1980’s was a delivery service known as “Pizza Express.”

Since the beginning, all spice recipes were mixed by hand by a family member and still are. They are then used in our own recipes for dough, sausage, and sauce, which are made daily by hand “The old fashioned way.” We have also spent a lot of time finding just the right cheese for our pizzas. Every single ingredient on our pizzas is fresh and prepared by hand.

Under new ownership July 2016, Richard and Kristin Guse bought the restaurant and will continue the same special recipes used since 1968. They will also be adding items to the menu.

A lot of time, energy, and thought has gone into the pies that we make for our customers. We care about our finished product, and we appreciate your patronage!
