Welcome to the vibrant heart of MUSC’s College of Health Professions - the Atrium! This space serves as the central hub for faculty, staff, and students, bustling with activity and energy throughout the year. Whether you're grabbing a cup of coffee between classes, attending a student organization function, or simply catching up with classmates, the Atrium is where you'll find yourself at the center of it all.Fun fact: This building was once the High School of Charleston, constructed in 1921. The Atrium encompasses the original courtyard and facade of the high school. As you step into this space, note that you’re entering the College of Health Professions “A” building – one of three CHP facilities you’ll visit on today’s tour. Toward the conclusion of your visit, you'll also have the opportunity to witness the progress at the construction site of our newest addition, the College of Health Professions D building (CHP-D). This innovative building will offer a cutting-edge learning environment for our students and advanced research facilities. Notably, the top two floors of the CHP-D building will house the new Clinical Research Center for Restoration of Neural-Based Function in the Real World (RENEW)… but we'll delve deeper into those details later.As we bid farewell to the atrium, let's continue our journey and explore the next exciting stop on our tour: the Office of Student Engagement, located to the left.

You’ve made it to the Student Engagement Office! This space serves as the epicenter of student life at CHP. To your right, you’ll find the offices of Aisha and Summer — our student recruiters! Should you have any specific questions about our programs, their contact information is readily available within the app for your convenience.Directly ahead, you'll find the office of Cami Meyer, our associate director of Student Engagement. Cami is committed to supporting and empowering students throughout their academic journey, ensuring they have the resources and guidance necessary to thrive in their programs.This space also contains the offices of Erica Martino, director of Student Enrichment and Community Outreach, and Jennifer Turner, assistant director of Marketing and Student Recruitment. Both enjoy helping current and future students learn more about CHP's programs.The good news is that this space offers much more than administrative tasks. It's a haven for students to snack, study, and unwind between classes. Feel free to make yourself at home and enjoy the amenities this space has to offer. If you’re interested in our perfusion program, you're in for a treat! Just ahead lies one of our cutting-edge cardiovascular perfusion simulation labs. Equipped with state-of-the-art Califia perfusion simulator technology, these labs meticulously replicate intricate cardiac and circulatory systems. Our high-fidelity cardiopulmonary bypass simulators, aka heart-lung machines, allow students to practice their perfusion skills in simulated clinical scenarios. This hands-on practice not only reinforces their knowledge but also ensures they're well-prepared for the challenges of real-world healthcare environments.Please note that due to the specialized nature of this equipment, unaccompanied visitors must refrain from entering this space. If you're eager to experience it firsthand, we invite you to schedule a guided tour led by one of our perfusion student ambassadors.Let's journey onward (or upward) to our next stop: the classroom. You are now on the 2nd floor of the CHP-A building, where many of our classroom spaces are located. As one example, room A204 is an innovative classroom space where many of our students experience the didactic aspect of their education. Here, amidst the rows of desks, our students engage in the academic curriculum that forms the foundation of their health care education. Equipped with high-definition video conferencing capabilities, large interactive screens, and microphones, this space supports real-time connections with guest speakers, faculty, and students.Take a moment to look around and get a feel for the space! It's worth noting that while each classroom within the College of Health Professions is essentially identical, they differ only in their capacity to accommodate varying numbers of students.

You’ve made it to the College of Health Profession B building (CHP-B) connector! Here on the second floor, you'll discover one of the many advantages of our campus layout: the ability to walk from CHP-A to CHP-B without ever stepping outside! Rain or shine, this covered walkway offers a seamless passage between buildings, ensuring that students, faculty, and staff can navigate our campus comfortably and efficiently. Take a moment to check out the cozy study nook on the right. Equipped with comfortable seating and natural lighting, it’s a perfect spot for a quick review session, a break between classes, or collaborative discussions with classmates.Walk on through to CHP-B but not too fast! Our next tour stop is just beyond the doors ahead.

Along these walls on the 2nd floor of CHP-B, you’ll find our student lockers—a practical amenity free to all CHP students who register on a per-semester basis. These lockers provide a secure space for students to store their belongings while they attend classes, engage in labs, or participate in clinical rotations.Cami Meyer, our Associate Director of Student Engagement, is available to assist with any locker-related needs, ensuring that our students can concentrate on their studies without concern for the safety of their personal belongings.

With lockers come locker rooms! Here, students have access to a dedicated space designed specifically for changing into and out of scrubs – a crucial component of their daily routine. Beyond preparing for lab sessions or rotations, these locker rooms offer students the convenience of changing after personal workouts or activities as well.Let’s head down the hall to our next stop!

Welcome to our Department of Rehabilitation Sciences Labs! Most of the spaces you see on this hallway house our OT and PT labs. Among these spaces lies the Camden Scott Meyer Pediatric Lab, a dynamic hub where our rehabilitation students engage with our community's youngest members. The pediatric lab is also home to “Go Baby Go,” a mobility program that allows young children with mobility impairments to explore and interact with their environment using adaptive equipment. If you're a prospective rehabilitation student, you'll call this vibrant space your second home until our new CHP-D building opens in fall of 2026.You may have noticed that we haven’t pointed out any rehabilitation faculty offices yet along this tour route. Fear not! You’ll find their offices on the third floor of this building and across the way in the College of Health Professions C building, along with our cutting-edge rehabilitation research facilities.

Welcome to our Anesthesia for Nurses Simulation Laboratory! Here, students have access to a dedicated space equipped with task trainers for all anesthesia airway and invasive skills, and a high-fidelity mannequin within a simulated operating room. During their time in the program, students have unlimited access to all task trainers so that they can practice skills at their convenience. Using small group instruction, students are given the opportunity to use their knowledge, develop skills, learn behaviors, and work with equipment that is used in daily anesthesia practice.Please note that due to the specialized nature of this equipment, unaccompanied visitors must refrain from entering this space. You’ve arrived at the MUSC OT & PT Clinic on Ashley Avenue. By day, it operates as one of MUSC Health’s Clinics, but on one evening a week, it is home to the CARES Therapy Clinic – MUSC’s nonprofit, student-run organization that provides free occupational, physical, and speech therapy to uninsured residents of South Carolina. Since 2005, the CARES Therapy Clinic has been managed by professional students at MUSC with medical supervision from volunteer licensed medical providers. The clinic, where many of our OT, PT, SLP, and MHA students volunteer, has a dual mission of serving vulnerable populations and educating future health care professionals. Students and their supervisors provide services for patients with orthopedic needs at the Ashley Avenue location and patients with neurological conditions at our Neurologic Rehabilitation Institute in West Ashley.Feel free to peek through the windows to catch a glimpse of MUSC therapists, students, and their patients in action!

Welcome to the PAS lab! This is a dedicated space for our PA students to complete laboratory assignments and simulate real-world medical scenarios, providing students with hands-on experience and practical training under the guidance of faculty. Within these walls, students learn to diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of medical conditions, preparing them for their future careers in clinical practice. Please note that this space is only accessible to prospective students when accompanied by our PAS faculty and students. Welcome to MUSC’s Horseshoe, also known as the “front lawn!” This picturesque oasis provides a serene retreat amidst the hustle and bustle of the hospital and campus life. Whether you're enjoying a meal from Caviar & Bananas or simply basking in the sun, the Horseshoe offers a breath of fresh air and a welcome respite from the daily grind. Our students love utilizing this space! As you explore, you'll notice the university hospital to your left, the College of Pharmacy and College of Dental Medicine on your right, and the James W. Colbert Education Center and Library just ahead. This scenic corner of MUSC’s campus serves as a natural sanctuary for patients, visitors, students, and staff alike.

Welcome to the James W. Colbert Education Center, home to MUSC’s library! This building provides a multitude of services and resources for our students with 21 group study rooms outfitted with whiteboards, private areas for individual study, over 170 computers available to faculty, staff, and students, and wireless access throughout the building. But that’s not all – this building is also home to MUSC's Healthcare Simulation Center, which provides an interprofessional, simulation-focused learning environment to enhance the education of healthcare professionals and improve the provision of safe, comprehensive healthcare across the MUSC enterprise. And when you need a study break or a caffeine boost, look no further than PJ’s Coffee!

Welcome to the Drug Discovery Building! This facility is one of two buildings that make up the Clyburn Research Center and is the home to drug design and synthesis research at MUSC. With its capacity to accommodate large class sizes, the Drug Discovery Building hosts lectures and workshops for our PAS students. For students enrolled in other CHP programs, this space may serve as a venue for special events and presentations. Feel free to go on in and explore the facility!

You won’t be spending much time here as a CHP student but it’s worth pointing out MUSC’s College of Medicine (COM)! Here, in the Clinical Sciences Building, you’ll find the MUSC College of Medicine’s deans office, clinical departments, and research teams.Founded in 1824, the MUSC College of Medicine was the first medical school in the southern United States and 10th medical school in the country. More than 9,000 medical degrees have been conferred by the college since its founding!Today, the college serves a diverse group of more than 740 medical students, 850 trainees in residency and fellowship programs, and patients throughout our state and beyond.

Just across the street lies the country’s second-oldest nursing school, MUSC’s College of Nursing (CON)! Amidst an ever-changing healthcare landscape, MUSC’s CON adeptly equips its students for the evolving role of a nurse, educating over 600 students annually! You’ll also notice an MUSC Shuttle stop nearby, part of our diverse transportation options around campus. Many of our students who utilize the free parking at the Hagood Commuter Lot opt for the shuttle system, ensuring a swift commute to campus.

To your left stands MUSC’s Department of Public Safety—a cornerstone of our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of everyone on campus. Our nationally accredited department is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of safety for patients, students, visitors, faculty, and staff alike. The grass is always a little greener at the greenway! This serene space is the result of a joint effort between MUSC, Roper Hospital, and the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center to provide the Charleston Medical District community with a space for relaxation, strolling, studying, and dining. The greenway has become a beloved destination for many. As you explore the area, you'll discover shaded walking paths, tables, and awe-inspiring views of Long Lake and the Charleston Harbor!Feel free to indulge in the various features the greenway has to offer, including the food trucks and local vendor markets along the Doughty Street area.

Welcome to Ashley River Tower! This facility serves a variety of patient care specialties including digestive health, heart and vascular care, and cancer care. Opened in 2008, the tower demonstrates MUSC's commitment to patients and families. Inside, you'll find amenities like private rooms, concierge service, family lounges and dining options. With nearly 800 beds, it houses departments like the Digestive Disease Center and Heart and Vascular Center, ensuring comprehensive care.Before you move on to the next stop of our tour, notice the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital and Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion on your left – an innovative facility dedicated to providing top-tier care for children and new mothers.On your right, you’ll also find MUSC’s Office of Enrollment Management (OEM). From admissions and student financial aid to registration and global health initiatives, OEM is the go-to hub for all our students’ academic needs.It's worth noting that this marks the farthest point of our campus!

Welcome to MUSC’s Wellness Center! More than just a gym, this space is open to the public and serves as a comprehensive hub for fitness and wellness. Here, you'll find state-of-the-art exercise studios and gym equipment – but that's just the beginning! The Wellness Center is dedicated to fostering holistic wellbeing, recognizing that true wellness encompasses not only physical health but also social, emotional, and spiritual wellness.For residential students, as part of the cost of attendance, a Wellness Fee is automatically assessed each term, granting them full access to the facility and its services using their student ID badges during operational hours.

You’ve arrived at another CHP facility! Welcome to our research building, home to many of the college’s research initiatives, laboratories, and as previously mentioned, the offices of our faculty researchers. Some of our most cutting-edge research in neurological disorders, stroke and spinal cord injury, Alzheimer’s, swallowing disorders, veterans’ health, and health disparities is conducted here. Some of our most notable research programs, including the Stroke Recovery Research Center, are housed here as well. Do you hear that? That construction noise is the sound of progress as our college’s fourth building, the College of Health Professions D building, is underway! Anticipated to open its doors in 2026, this state-of-the-art, six-story facility will provide an exceptional learning environment for our students and cutting-edge research facilities to support our mission of enhancing population health through the development of skilled health scientists and leaders.Fun fact: The College of Health Professions is ranked No. 11 in the nation for National Institutes of Health research funding! One of the highlights of the CHP-D building will be the new Clinical Research Center for Restoration of Neural-Based Function in the Real World (RENEW), occupying the top two floors. Made possible by our generous donors and a $7.8 million NIH grant awarded to one of our CHP researchers, Dr. Steven Kautz, this center will spearhead statewide studies aimed at advancing care for individuals affected by stroke or other neurological conditions. Plus – our college is experiencing rapid growth! We’re excited to have yet another facility to accommodate our flourishing community.

As you glance beyond the fence of CHP-D, you'll spot the College of Dental Medicine Clinic! While our College of Dental Medicine has multiple facilities in Charleston, this clinic is conveniently situated on the main university campus – an accessible resource to our students as they are accepting new patients!You’ll also notice MUSC’s Student Health Services across the street to the left! Open to all actively enrolled students, this comprehensive healthcare facility provides management for acute and chronic medical issues, Women’s Health services, and preventive care. Many of these services can be provided through a virtual visit, where others may require an in-person evaluation. Best of all, services performed at Student Health, such as physical exams, allergy shots, in-office lab tests, spirometry, and more, come at no additional charge.

Welcome to Colcock Hall! This building houses the offices of MUSC’s President, Dr. David J. Cole, Provost, Dr. Lisa K. Saladin, and numerous central administrative offices.Fun Fact: This Greek-revival building has a rich history, dating back to the early 1860s. Originally used for manufacturing small arms and cannon repair, it was later acquired by MUSC and served as the first home of the College of Dental Medicine.Just to the right, you’ll also notice St. Luke's Chapel. This historic, non-denominational chapel serves as a hall for a variety of religious and devotional services, convocations, concerts, weddings, memorial services, and other activities. It is available to all recognized campus organizations, students, faculty, staff and the general public for specific functions.

Welcome to the last stop on today’s tour, the Waring Historical Library! A cherished gem on campus, it stands as the special collections and rare book library of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Named in honor of Joseph I. Waring, Jr., the inaugural director of the Historical Library, it supports the teaching and research mission of MUSC by collecting and preserving original manuscripts, books, and other items relating to the history of the University, the history of health sciences in South Carolina and the South, and identifying resources documenting the health sciences of the Atlantic World during the 18th and 19th centuries. It serves as a valuable resource for researchers, students, and anyone interested in exploring the rich history of healthcare.In addition to the preservation of special collections, the library hosts exhibits throughout the year covering a wide range of topics – from the evolution of medical practices and contributions of notable figures in the field to advancements in medical technology and history of public health initiatives, it’s a valuable resource to discover more about the history of health care.
