About The Walrus Bar & Hostel
The Walrus Bar & Hostel is located at 172 Westminster Bridge Road (formerly 53 Bridge Road) and has been a 5 storey inn/ public house hosting international travellers and locals since at least 1790, originally called 'The Red Lyon' and later 'New Dover Castle', one of the areas most popular venues throughout the 1800's, affectionaltely know to locals as 'Watchorns' until the end of the century, after the much loved entrepreneur and relative of Charles Dickens, John Watchorn and his family, ran it and lived there from 1841- 1861.
