Afterglow: Frederic Church and the Landscape of Memory uses Frederic Church’s paintings to demonstrate how engagement with art and the natural world can be a source of comfort, reflection, and solace. As he experienced personal losses, Church expressed grief through his paintings and immersed himself in the natural world to heal. Olana is both the Churches family home and an artist’s creation, made up of 250 acres of designed landscape that frame breathtaking views. Church’s design creates a unique experience of the natural world and the Hudson Valley landscape, enabling visitors to experience solace and inspiration at every turn.
