Tour Overview
Spessart Odenwald
In a stretch of 110 kilometres (68 mi), the River Main creates an enormous U-shape from Lohr am Main to Aschaffenburg, also known as the Main Viereck or Square. As the river winds through the valley, the dense, rolling Spessart Hills dominate the northern bank and at the south end of the U, the Odenwald covers the river's left bank. These ancient forests are steeped in folklore and offer stunning, unspoiled views. The twists and turns of the river provide ever-changing vistas, from idyllic villages to forested slopes.
whilst sailing the river, you will notice that each hour there is a lock, a half-timbered medieval town with a castle on top of a hill.
Make sure to keep your eyes open for wildlife along the riverbanks, such as deer, otters, geese, beavers, kingfisher and many more species. Famous medieval towns include, Lohr am Main, Marktheidenfeld, Wertheim, Miltenberg and ofcourse mighty Aschaffenburg, with its enormous Johannisberg Palace overlooking the river.
