Focus: Kensington Palace and its Gardens
Historical Content
- Stuart Era: Kensington Palace is purchased by William III and Mary II. They subdivide Kensington Gardens from Hyde Park.
- Georgian Era: Queen Caroline inaugurates the construction of Round Pond and the Serpentine (from the Westbourne River). She also establishes the Orangery and the Sunken Gardens near the palace. George II leaves Kensington Palace, and it ceases to be the royal residence of the monarchy.
- Victorian Era: Victoria is born in Kensington palace and lives here until her ascendency. George Frederic Watts creates the statue Physical Energy.
- Modern Era: Kensington Palace becomes the home of several of the royal family. Peter Pan statue constructed. Children’s playground devised and then expanded in memory of Lady Diana, Princess of Wales.
