Tour Overview

Congratulations on having been chosen to join the thousands before you who have had this rare opportunity of a Study Abroad program in London. Your life is about to be altered in ways you never dreamed possible. You will experience a significant part of what a missionary experiences in two years, and you, like a missionary, will never be quite the same again.

The specific details of your courses of study will be different from all who preceded you. That is a natural consequence of the faculty who have been chosen as your instructors. But the most vital part of the curriculum will always remain much the same in every program—London itself.

Three major features have shaped the construction of these walks: 1) the geography of London, 2) a sense of history, and 3) the benefit of knowing some of the social customs of the Brits.

Editors note: The Kennedy Center extends our gratitude to Dr. Arthur R. Bassett, author of the original text, and to his associate Dr. Larry T. Wimmer, who assisted in the creation of these walking tours. The project, suggested by Dr. Ray C. Hillam, and backed by (then) Kennedy Center director, Jeffrey E. Ringer, was first used by and dedicated to the 1995 London Centre students. This work has now been updated and prepared for web application use by Susan L. Martin, editor, who also wrote the additional text. Our thanks to Judith Kirkham, from the BYU London Centre, for providing many of the updated photographs.
