Quirk Gallery

Quirk Gallery was established in 2005 with a mission to present unexpected exhibitions of contemporary artwork, specifically craft (jewelry, metals, ceramics, glass, fiber, etc.) from artists that utilized non-traditional materials. The original Quirk Gallery occupied a building in downtown Richmond’s Broad Street corridor (soon to be established as The Arts District) and included three exhibition spaces—-a large Main Gallery space, one small 8 × 8′ space known as The Vault, and a third in the gallery’s shop. From the beginning, Quirk Gallery included a curated shop that was designed to feature more contemporary craft artists, unique gift items, stationery, etc.—-the thought being that a traditional retail environment/shop would feel familiar and comfortable for those who might otherwise be intimidated by entering a contemporary gallery or “fancy art space.” Quirk was designed to be a special experience that was intended for everyone.
