Tour Overview
This self-guided tour of 13 breweries and brewpubs runs in a rough upside-down V shape, looping from south to north and back south again. Plan ahead because some breweries offer limited hours, while others are open daily and offer full dining menus. Check their websites or social media feeds for up-to-date info.
Driving straight through without making any stops takes 6 hours, but where is the fun in that? Instead, we recommend allowing two to three days to really enjoy as many stops as you desire.
The list naturally breaks into three segments, with the breweries in Gray, Lewiston, and Auburn filling out the first afternoon. Day two provides some country driving, perhaps some waterfall spotting, or hiking with tasting stops in Rangeley or Bethel, depending on your stamina and preferences. The final day of tasting will bring you back south through the charming western Maine towns of Norway, Harrison, and Fryeburg.
Bring along enough drivers so you can each take turns as the designated driver to prevent driving under the influence (DUI). Alcoholic beverages impair your faculties, and driving impaired puts you and everyone else on the road in danger.
