Tour Overview
Maine’s Lakes and Mountains region is home to 15 waterfalls that will thrill and delight visitors. Tumbling nearly 180ft over solid granite, Pennacook Falls (Rumford Falls) is the highest waterfall east of Niagara, while Angel Falls is considered one of Maine’s highest single-drop fall at 90ft. An adventure in Western Maine is made all the better by the dramatic heights, lush surroundings, and thunderous roar of these unique natural attractions.
Access varies from roadside access to difficult, though most can be reached by an easy to moderate hike. Our tour gives driving directions to trailheads and information on trail difficulty, altitude change, and time to reach. So review them all, then pick one or plan an adventure that includes them all.
A Note on Waterfall Safety
Waterfalls and the areas in their vicinity are filled with slippery surfaces, so be prepared if you plan to hike or explore these beautiful natural features. Always keep in mind just how remote you are as you carefully explore and that help, while available, is likely a long way off. Footwear with grippy soles and excellent ankle support are a must. Unless designated for swimming, stay out of the water and away from waterfall edges (even if you aren’t risk averse).
