Tour Overview
It's astounding how many of America's musical milestones happened in Macon, Georgia.
It’s where native Little Richard Penniman, the “Architect of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” perfected his “wop-bop-a-loo-bop.” It's where Otis Redding grew up and first uttered the impassioned strains of “Got-ta, Got-ta” on the stage of the Douglass Theatre. It’s where James Brown cut the demo of “Please, Please, Please," which led to his first record deal. It's where the Allman Brothers Band came together to live, nurture their improvisational grooves and help put Macon's Capricorn Records on the map.
It’s where legends of the past are kept alive, and a new era of greats is born.
From pioneers, preachers and chart-toppers to violinists, rappers and Southern rockers, musicians have made their marks on Macon -- Where Soul Lives.
The Macon Music Trail, a self-guided tour, provides a glimpse into Macon’s storied music history. While some stops on the trail are open to the public, please look for the markers at the designated sites, be mindful, and do not trespass on sites that are not open to the public.
