Tour Overview
Art is everywhere in Maine's Kennebec Valley—all you need to do is keep an eye out for it.
Each of the communities along the Kennebec River from Gardiner to Skowhegan possesses an enviable collection of public sculpture and murals; even the Colby Museum of Art is home to one of Richard Serra’s structural, almost environmental pieces fabricated from the richly hued orangish-reddish-brownish colored Corten steel. One standout selection with no known artist to attribute the work to is way up north along a stretch of 201 opposite Lake Wyman where dozens of bird houses have magically taken residence along the retaining wall.
No matter where it is, art is worth the drive.
