Tour Overview
This section of the Outback Way traverses the western edge of the journey, passing through the Great Victoria Desert Bio-region—stretching from Laverton in Western Australia to approximately 120 km west of Warburton.
Great Victoria Desert Bio-region
The landscape here is defined by arid sand-ridges of deep red sands and vast hummock grasslands, with scattered Eucalypt species. You’ll also spot desert gum trees, mallee in clumped formations, and mulga-dominated acacias, forming a hardy but beautiful desert ecosystem.
While the region is arid, it can receive both summer and winter rains—though rainfall is often highly variable, with years of drought followed by bursts of growth.
Starting or Finishing at Laverton
Whether you're beginning or ending your journey here, Laverton marks the western gateway of the Outback Way. From here, the desert landscape stretches far and wide, offering a truly remote and immersive outback experience.
