About the Tom Lea Trail Mobile Tour
Content for this app was developed by the Tom Lea Institute and the Heritage Tourism Program in collaboration with the Texas Historical Commission and many subject experts and consulting experts.
In 2017, the 85th Texas Legislature passed S.B. 928 and H.B. 1317, sponsored by Sen. José RodrÃguez and Rep. Joe Pickett, to officially designate the Tom Lea Trail.
In accordance with this legislation, the Texas Historical Commission has partnered with the Tom Lea Institute (TLI) to create the trail. As the main advocates for this legislation, the TLI has been instrumental in solidifying the legacy of Tom Lea in Texas. In their role as primary partner, the TLI has mapped the trail route, identified participating sites, and assembled a collection of primary materials and first-person accounts, all of which you can now experience on this app.
