Did you know that Wilcannia was once NSW’s third largest port? Did you know that the world’s first commercial solar thermal power station was built in White Cliffs? Did you know that 6 million sheep were shorn in Kinchega Woolshed near Menindee? You can find these stories and much more on the Central Darling Heritage Trail App!! The Central Darling Region is a beautiful and fascinating part of Australia and definitely worth exploring at a leisurely pace. This app combines a blend of Indigenous and European heritage information, old and new photographs, a kids’ quiz, animations, and short interviews with the locals. All this is explored through a series of six, immersive, self-guided walking and driving tours taking in Wilcannia, White Cliffs and Menindee. Each one is easy to navigate and takes about an hour or two. The app works offline (best to download before you go) and all of the stops are GPS tagged, so the information will pop up on your screen when you approach. As you drive between the towns you can listen to the short-embedded podcasts, which will give you a bit of background information.
