Tour Overview
Audio-discovery of Sarlat-la-Canéda, in English with French accent.
Ah bonjour, mes amis! Welcome to this enchanting audio discovery of Sarlat-la-Canéda, a town where every stone has a story to tell!
Oh, mon dieu! Where are my manners? I'm getting ahead of myself again.
Allow me to introduce myself properly. My name is Albert, the ever-enthusiastic spirit of Sarlat, taking the humble form of a salamander. Yes, you heard that right – a salamander, so best mind your step! But, my dear friends, I'm not just any salamander though, I am the very one, proudly pictured on Sarlat's coat of arms.
If you should wish to hear the melodic charm of my voice, simply tap on the delightfully illustrated play button above this text, featuring my rather dashing likeness.
You'll find this is not an ordinary historical audio tour. Sure, I could rattle off centuries’ worth of dates and dry facts at every stop, but what truly tickles my fancy, are the juicy tidbits and eccentric tales of Sarlat’s past inhabitants. After all, history isn’t merely a string of events; it’s the people who breathed life into it. So prepare yourself for a delightful mélange of historical facts, spicy medieval scandals, and captivating intrigue.
But before we go, allow me to briefly explain how this audio-tour works. We will make a lovely stroll through Sarlat's most charming streets, along the most important historical buildings, and through forgotten alleys.
The ChroniQ app uses your location to play audio automatically, at the right time and place. Don't be concerned if I'm silent at times, as I'll only chime in when it’s time to direct or delight you with a story or two.
Unfortunately, considering Sarlat’s charmingly tight-knit layout, there is a small possibility that the GPS on your phone is inaccurate during the tour. Even modern phones tent to struggle with Sarlat.
So, just in case my directions leave you scratching your head, there’s a handy roadmap available when you tap on the map icon below the screen, to guide you along the way.
A cheeky little pro tip;
Keep your screen unlocked during our promenade, as it will greatly assist in the GPS department. I'll promise it will work much better than when it's buried away in a purse or petticoat.
And to add a little more magic to this experience, I've added all kinds of beautiful photos at every stop, offering a window into the past or highlighting details that surround us.
If you are looking for a parking place near the starting location of our tour, you can check out these free parking spots.
1) On tranquil days, you’ll find Parking du Plantier conveniently near our starting point.
2) During bustling times, and if you don't mind a 10 min walk, there's Parking Chem. de Desmouret .
