Great Pulteney Street -Sunderland Street // Vanity Fair
Great Pulteney Street, spanning over 1,000 feet long and 100 feet wide, is the broadest and grandest thoroughfare in Bath. It is lined with beautiful Georgian properties on both sides. Not only is it one of the longest streets in the city, but it is also home to the shortest street. A side street off Great Pulteney Street, Sunderland Street, has just one address!
Pulteney bridge and Pulteney weir // Les Misérables
In October 2012, Bath transformed into 18th-century Paris to film a climactic scene in Les Misérables. The film tells the story of Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), a man pursued for decades by the relentless policeman Javert (Russell Crowe) after breaking parole. Valjean agrees to take care of the daughter of a factory worker, a decision that changes their lives forever.
Parade Gardens // Wonka
Filming for Wonka, chocolate-maker Willy Wonka’s origin story, took place in the autumn of 2021, with artificial snow spread across the set as scenes were shot in Parade Gardens and the pillared Colonnades by the riverside. Pulteney Bridge was also shrouded in fog to create a mystical atmosphere.
Abbey Street // Bridgerton
In Bridgerton, the Grade II listed building at 2 Abbey Street, with its traditional double-fronted bay windows, houses the Modiste. It is the dress shop where the ladies of the ton gather to gossip while Madame Genevieve Delacroix fits their dresses. In one scene, Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and her mother, Lady Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell), visit the Modiste, where they meet Lady Featherington (Polly Walker) and Marina (Ruby Barker).
Stall Street // The Unremarkable Pilgrimage of Harold Fry
Bath appears in The Unremarkable Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, a film adaptation of Rachel Joyce's novel of the same name. The story follows the titular character, Harold, as he embarks on an epic walking journey from South Devon to Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Bath Street // Persuasion
Netflix's 2022 adaptation of Persuasion was filmed in Bath, a city where Jane Austen once lived and wrote. The Georgian streets of Bath provided a fitting backdrop, just as they did for the 1995 and 2007 adaptations of Austen's classic novel. The book is set in Bath, making the city's Georgian architecture and scenic surroundings the perfect backdrop for the film.
Bath Street // Wonka
Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the city's historic center contains 500 buildings of great historical and architectural significance. Bath Street is one of the most impressive streets in Bath, with the cobblestones looking down on the towering columns of the buildings that flank either side.
Queen Street // Sherlock
In February 2015, a special episode of the British series Sherlock was filmed on Queen Street. This special, titled The Abominable Bride, aired on January 1, 2016. It presents the series' characters in an alternate timeline set in Victorian England. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson find themselves in the 1890s, with the cobbled streets of Queen Street serving as the backdrop for this period piece.
Beaufort Square // Bridgerton
Among the filming locations for the series, Bridgerton is Beaufort Square, a charming and quiet parade of Georgian houses built in 1730 and designed by John Strahan. The south side features the original frontage of the Theatre Royal Bath, while the center of the square contains a communal garden that is now a small rectangular lawn enclosed by wrought iron railings.
Assembly Rooms - The Tea Room // The Duchess
The Bath Assembly Rooms, completed in 1771, were celebrated as "the most noble and elegant" venue in the kingdom. They served as a central hub for public gatherings during Bath's Georgian era. They hosted various social events, including balls, concerts, and tea parties, attracting notable figures such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and Thomas Gainsborough.
No 1 Royal Crescent // Bridgerton
In Bridgerton, the Palladian façade of No. 1 Royal Crescent serves as the Featherington family's home in Regency London. The exterior facing the park was used as the basis for Featherington House, featuring a white front door painted blue. Elaborate decorations were added to the otherwise restrained façade using CGI.
