Tour Overview
Hello! Drin Hǫzǫ! Welcome to the traditional territory of the Tr'ondëk Hwëchʼin.
The Tour:
This tour will take you down Bonanza Creek Road, which winds through the Klondike Goldfields and follows the same route created by miners in 1896. This is still an active mining area, so please stay on the road and enjoy the journey!
Before You Go:
- If you want to gold pan at the last stop on the tour, make sure to ask at the Visitor Information Centre in Dawson City where you can obtain equipment for the day.
- The road is well-traveled during the summer months, but there is substantially less traffic and road maintenance from October- April. Be prepared!
- You are in bear country, please ensure proper disposal of food and carry bear spray with you.
- It's customary to wave at passing traffic, and to let faster vehicles pass you safely- do as the locals do!

Back in 1896, there were no warnings or guidelines like this. Word spread that fortune could be made, so people made the treacherous journey north to try their luck. Little did they realize the effects their presence would bring to the local First Nation: the Trʼondëk Hwëchʼin.
As you make your way towards Bonanza Creek Road (a less than 10-minute drive outside Dawson City), look around.
Can you imagine this place with no roads, cars or buildings?
The tour begins at a pull-out featuring Yukon Government interpretive panels on the righthand side of the road, shortly after turning onto Bonanza Creek Rd.
There is no internet or cell service during most of this tour. You must download the tour before you set out.
