Tour Overview

Before the current Historical Markers program launched in 2018, the former Kogarah and Hurstville councils each curated their own lists of significant sites, preserving stories that shaped our community. These early plaques are more than metal - they’re windows into the past, marking the places where local history began.

Now, you can take a virtual stroll through the Original Historic Markers and uncover tales of pioneering families, landmark buildings, and the evolution of our suburbs. From donated acres for education to the roots of Gannon’s Forest, these markers tell the story of how Georges River grew from bushland to bustling neighbourhoods.

Some of these old markers are looking a little worse for wear, submit a nomination to get an Old Historical Marker near you cleaned up as part of the current Historical Markers Program!

Ready to explore? Let’s start the tour and rediscover the heritage that still stands proudly in our streets.
