Mural Trail Bike Tour

Mural mania is sweeping across western New York with an emphasis on canal towns. It got its grassroots beginning in Town of Lyons. Generally, the murals depict early life along the canal in the hopes of preserving the history of this period through art. Cayuga Seneca Canal Trail

The Cayuga-Seneca Canal Trail is a 4.5-mile pathway beginning in Waterloo, and ending at Seneca Lake State Park. The trail begins near Lock 4 in Waterloo and heads towards Seneca Lake. The path follows the canal through a picturesque landscape and wetlands, letting hikers experience the natural beauty of the area at any pace. The trail surface is flat making it ideal for a variety of uses, including walking, biking, wheelchair use, etc. A tunnel under 96A provides a direct connection to Seneca Lake State Park.

Cayuga Lake State Park

Cayuga Lake State Park's terrain is flat at lakeshore, where the beach and sun lawns are, then slopes gently uphill to campsites and cabins. The scenic highlight of the park is its expansive view of Cayuga Lake. In the shallow water near the park, largemouth bass, bullheads and carp thrive. In deeper water, anglers can catch northern pike, small mouth bass, lake trout, landlocked salmon and many other varieties of fish. The park has a boat launch, playground, playing field.

Montezuma Heritage Park

Montezuma Heritage Park boasts 7 trails and 140 acres that loop around the historic remains of the early Erie Canal. It runs along the Seneca River on one side and a huge marsh which borders the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge on the other. On the Cayuga-Seneca Lock 11 Trail you will find the Meil's Drydock along with a lookout deck alongside the marsh.At the Highland Street entrance there is a map which will show you where the lookout deck is located.From the outlook you can see acres and acres of the marshland, boasting many different types of birds and water fowl. The marsh backs up to the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge Center.
