Gilks' Garage Cafe

A family business dating all the way back to 1904 when George Gilks set up a Blacksmith Shop in the Market Square, Kineton. The present site has been occupied by the Gilks business since the 1940’s. It was at one point a dealership for Rootes Motors, selling Hillman cars. The garage showrooms are now a themed café. There’s an electric car charging point in the off-street car park and cycle parking too. A site for numerous car meets and themed events.Gilks are proud of their all-day breakfast, but they also provide light lunches, daily specials, fresh sandwiches, snacks and a variety of cakes baked on site.Do check opening times as they can vary across the week.

Stratford Upon Avon

I’m assuming that I don’t really need to say too much about this famous town… Ever heard of it? No?Shakespeare, river, canal, bus tours, ghost walks, theatres, buskers / street artists and some lovely buildings. Lots of eateries and seasonal events. You get the picture!Aware that I’m talking with those who may be mechanically inclined – its worth sharing with you a favourite spot that could be overlooked - The MAD museum (see link below). Full of fantastic automata and well worth a look, particularly if the weather isn’t great during your visit.I’ve also put the Butterfly Farm and Gelato shop links in here – not because of any affiliation but because our little one enjoys both! The Quick Trip directs you to the Stratford Greenway (see separate screen), or you could park more centrally but still near the river using the driving link below if preferred.

Cotswolds Distillery

Founded in 2014 this is the first full-scale distillery in the Cotswolds. The company crafts a range of single malt whiskies, gins and liqueurs, including the award-winning Cotswolds Dry Gin and Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky. There are distillery tours and a nice cafe as well as a shop and the potential to attend gin, whisky and cocktail masterclasses. Tastings are available too, although best for passengers only!

Stratford Greenway

Stratford Greenway is a disused railway line that has been transformed into a popular walking, cycling and horse-riding route. The car park you’re aiming for is directly off a roundabout on the A4390. Warwickshire’s Country Parks operate a reasonably priced cash-less pay and display system here which accepts payment via smartphone, smartwatch or contactless card.If you download the PDF map below, the car park is depicted towards the right-hand side. Opening hours vary according to the season. It basically seems to close according to when dusk starts to set in (check the website for precise times). If you wanted to explore the Greenway a little, of course feel free! The intent with the Quick Trip, however, is for you to take the path down towards the river Avon. You cross via a footbridge and then head left towards Stratford centre, passing swans, ducks and various canal and river boats along the way.We find it a really nice, stress free way to enter this often busy tourist destination. The walk is less than a mile. Aside from some steps on the footbridge and the risk of duck / goose poo, its very easy going. We once met local resident Quentin Willson on this walk(!).
