Pocklington

The start and end point of this circular route.Pocklington is an East Yorkshire market town at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds, around 15 miles from York. There are various shops and eateries to explore, along with a fairly impressive church boasting a 15th century tower. You could feed the huge fish, walk the gardens, admire the house and take in Europe's largest waterlily collection at Burnby Hall Gardens, or perhaps plan your trip to coincide with an interesting performance at the Arts Centre.

Millington Pasture

Millington Pasture (or pastures) is an area of special scientific interest in the dry chalk valleys of the East Yorkshire Wolds. There are some very pretty and winding little roads around here. If you take a picnic, you’re bound to find a nice place to pause. You can park for free and stretch your legs as you pass the Millington Wood Nature Reserve. The Wood features walking and mountain biking routes. It also includes Millington Springs, which used to support the cultivation of watercress. You'll pass a right turn for Millington village before you reach the Wood. The hamlet is very small but contains both a pub and a tea room. The Gait Inn pub, gets its name from the pasturage, or “gait” allowance that was made to farmers depending on how many sheep they grazed on the land.

Huggate

Huggate is the highest village in the Yorkshire Wolds at around 558 feet (170 metres) above sea level. The village is only small, but there’s a nice tea room that gets some very good ratings on Trip Advisor and the like...
