Marni! Welcome and Introduction

‘Adjigari! Marni Nharangganu Banggara

Ngallugu barni wardi

Ngallugu barni banggara

Friends! Welcome to Narungga Country.

This is our home,

This is our Country.’

As an introduction to Dhilba Guuranda – Innes National Park, these videos share stories of our connection to this Bangarra (Country). We have always been connected to this place, and today through co-management we collaboratively manage this Banggara with the National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia.

Narungga Language

Throughout this national park, we have shared Narungga names or words for plants, animals and activities. We encourage you to use our language - when we do this, we honour Nharangga dhura (Narungga people) and keep culture strong.

These videos will give you an insight into Narungga language, its reclamation after colonisation and how we have been bringing it back to Dhilba Guuranda – Innes National Park.

Narungga Artworks

There are a number of artworks throughout the park that have been developed by Narungga artists Jay Milera and Kevin Newchurch in collaboration with the wider community. These artworks reference important stories about place and culture and are a visible reminder of Narungga custodianship. Watch these videos to hear more from the artists.

Gunggaradji / Creation Stories

Gunggaradji means creation. Creation stories are from marna buggilu – ancient times, and they have important lessons that have been passed down by our ancestors. You can still see signs of them today in the landscape.

These videos feature Narungga people sharing insight into the wealth of Narungga stories and lessons held by this powerful Banggara (Country) at Dhilba-Guuranda Innes National Park.

Cultural Practices and Narungga Life

We continue to practice Narungga culture across Guuranda (Yorke Peninsula) today, including at Dhilba-Guuranda Innes National Park. If you are interested to hear more, through these videos you can hear directly from Narungga people sharing their personal and cultural connections to this place.
