Tour Overview
Step into the fairy-tale city of Prague with this comprehensive walking tour that takes you from the heights of the castle district to the bustling heart of the Old Town.
Your adventure begins at the imposing Prague Castle (Pražský hrad), where you will explore the ancient Romanesque interiors of St. George's Basilica and wander through the tiny, colourful houses of Golden Lane (Zlatá ulička).
Wind your way down into the baroque beauty of Malá Strana (The Lesser Town) before crossing the iconic Vltava River via the stunning Charles Bridge (Karlův most).
Once on the east bank, delve into the poignant history of the Jewish Quarter (Josefov), then emerge into the vibrant centre of the city at Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí).
Here, watch the crowds gather for the hourly procession of the medieval Astronomical Clock (Pražský orloj).
Continue your cultural exploration by admiring the Art Nouveau elegance of the Municipal House (Obecní dům), and conclude your journey with a stroll down the historic and politically significant Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí).
Tour Starting Point
While the Metro gets you close, the tram is the most convenient mode of transport for reaching the castle entrance itself.
The Easiest Way to Find It:
Metro
The Metro is the mainline connection, but you will still have a walk uphill.
Metro Station: Hradčanská
Lines: Line A (Green Line)
Walking Time: 10-15 minute walk uphill from the station to the main castle gate.
Tram
This is the best and most popular way to get to the castle, with a stop very close to the entrance.
Tram Stop: Pražský hrad
Lines: 22 and 23
Walking Time: 2-3 minute walk downhill from the tram stop to the main castle entrance.
Tram Stop: Královský letohrádek
Lines: 22
Walking Time: This stop is even closer to the eastern (back) entrance of the castle, near the Royal Gardens. A 1-minute walk.
Bus
There are no direct city bus lines to the main castle entrance that are useful for tourists. The nearest bus stops are in the Hradčany area and require a walk.
Bus Stop: Pohořelec
Lines: 192 (from the city center) and others.
Walking Time: This is a good starting point for a walk down to the castle. It's a 5-minute walk from the stop to the second (eastern) castle entrance.
Train
There is no train station at or near Prague Castle.
