Tour Starting Point

Syntagma Square (in Greek: Πλατεία Συντάγματος, Plateia Syntagmatos) is the absolute central hub and most important square in Athens. Its name means "Constitution Square," and it's the political and social heart of Greece.

The Easiest Way to Find It:

Close By Public Transport Connections. Syntagma Square is the main transport hub for the entire city of Athens. Almost every form of public transport passes through or stops here.

Metro

Syntagma is the central station of the Athens Metro network and a major interchange point.

Line 2 (Red Line): Runs from Anthoupoli to Elliniko (connecting the southern suburbs).

Line 3 (Blue Line): This is the key line for tourists. It runs from Nikaia through the city centre (Syntagma) and directly to Athens International Airport. It also connects to the port of Piraeus via a transfer at "Neratziotissa" or "Doukissis Plakentias."

Connection to Line 1 (Green Line): The Green Line (which connects to the Port of Piraeus) does not stop at Syntagma. You can easily transfer by taking Line 2 or 3 one stop to "Monastiraki" station, which is a 5-minute walk from Syntagma Square.

Tram

The modern tram system has a stop at Syntagma, providing a direct link to the southern coastal suburbs.

Tram Line 3: Connects Syntagma Square to the coast, running through popular destinations like Voula, Glyfada, and Vouliagmeni. This is the best way to get to the Athenian Riviera by public transport.

Buses

Numerous city and regional bus routes serve Syntagma Square and the surrounding streets.

Bus Stops: The main stops are located on Filellinon Street (west side of the square) and Vasilissis Amalias Avenue (east side, next to the Parliament).

Trolleybuses

Athens also has an extensive network of electric trolleybuses, many of which stop at Syntagma.
