The Powder House sits along the hiking trail and dates back to around 1845. Built directly into the hillside, it was used to store black powder, dynamite, and other blasting materials during the height of 19th-century mining operations.

The Randolph Mine, along with the Barnhardt Mine, earned a reputation as the richest and most profitable mines east of the Mississippi River. Today, a steel bridge stretches across the impressive 850-foot shaft.
