Sheffield Murals Walking Tour

The Kentish region of North West Tasmania is known as “Tasmania’s Outdoor Art Gallery” and is the gateway to the iconic Cradle Mountain-Lake St Claire National Park in the World Heritage Tasmania Wilderness.

In the 1980s Sheffield was in an economic down period, so a group of innovative locals came together and devised a plan to put Sheffield on the map!

They knew tourists were often driving by Sheffield on their way to Cradle Mountain and brainstormed ways to get the tourists to stop and explore the beautiful and historic country town. Members of the group had recently seen a documentary on a small town in Vancouver British Columbia who had painted artwork on their building walls.

Thus the “Town of Murals” was born! The project began with murals depicting pioneer life and over the years has grown to include the world-renown International Mural Fest and even celebrity murals!

The Sheffield Mural Walking Tour will lead you through the heart of Sheffield where you can explore over 100 murals, learn about the local history, and stop for some retail therapy or one of the delicious cafes or restaurants.

Enjoy your time in Tasmania’s Outdoor Art Gallery.
