Poplar Forest House Tour

Welcome to Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest! We hope you enjoy your self-guided tour of Jefferson's retreat home. The first screen of this tour is our Orientation Video which is available to watch in the Orientation Center every 30 minutes until 4 p.m. You can move to the next screen if you have already seen the video, but we do suggest you watch it before going into the house if you have time. There are also two stops on the landscape in this tour before going inside the house.

Historic House Guidelines:

• The historic house has been restored using period appropriate paint that is extremely fragile. DO NOT touch the walls or trim work in the house to help us preserve it.
• There is no food or drink allowed inside. Leave all beverages and food on the North Portico.
• The Black Windsor chairs throughout each room are reproductions and meant for your use.
• Leave umbrellas on the North Portico if it’s raining.
• Please close the doors as you enter and exit the house behind you.
