Tour Overview
Welcome to Sculpture at The Mount.
Sculpture at The Mount features works of contemporary outdoor sculpture in a range of media against the backdrop of the vibrant woods, gardens, and grounds of The Mount, the historic home of American novelist Edith Wharton. The 2025 show, comprised of 25 large-scale, juried works, is free and open to the public from dawn to dusk. This self-guided audio tour, available in both English and Spanish, includes descriptions of the sculptures that were written and recorded by the artists.
Be sure to visit our website at EdithWharton.org to register for artist-led tours, kids' sculpture walks, and our Meet the Artists opening event on June 29.
Exhibition Statement
By Guest Juror, Sarah Montross, Ph.D., Museum Director and Chief Curator of deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum (Lincoln, MA), The Trustees
This year’s Sculpture at The Mount exhibition brings dozens of new sculptures together around diverse ideas of movement. While jurying this exhibition, we aspired to be open about what “movement” can mean for sculpture. There are captivating kinetic artworks that evoke patterns of wind, lifecycles, or orbital phenomena. Natural growth, mortality, and transience are also summoned as types of movement in certain sculptures. There are artworks that are emotionally moving through how they touch some part of our inner selves. There are artworks that synergize trans-national experiences or evoke physical journeys that can lead to transformation.
It is a special gift that this exhibition is free and open to the public and that artist-centered programs for all ages and backgrounds multiply the impact and reach of this show. We hope all visitors are moved as they move through The Mount’s landscape.
