Hike overview

Your hike starts at the train station Hinterzarten (a short train ride from Freiburg or Titisee gets you there). If you turn your GPS on (recommended) the hiking tour starts automatically when you arrive at the train station in Hinterzarten. You will then hike into Ravenna Gorge. There is a lot of Black Forest history here because it was one of the only places to cross-over The Black Forest prior to modern roads. Here you find the oldest chapel in The Black Forest, some ancient saw mills, rope mills, and even a mill that made spoons, forks & knives. You will see how people thrived hundreds of years ago. There is also the areas largest cuckoo clock and a few touristy things. With our tour we make sure you don't get lost. We tell you exactly where to stop. where to turn and what to see. We provide you with lots of background info along your hike so you can tour like a local. All stops come with photos and lots of helpful info so you know what to expect. No surprises.

How to get to Hinterzarten

• by train from Freiburg: trains depart twice an hour, the train ride takes 35 minutes.
• by train from Titisee: several trains an hour, the train ride takes 5 minutes
• by car: park your car at the train station in Hinterzarten

Recommendations:

• Always carry cash. There are places to eat and drink along the way. While this is not a remote location, some places along the route may not accept credit cards.

• Be prepared for changes in weather, especially rain and wind, pack a jacket!

• Shoes appropriate for rocky and slippery terrain. Really!

• Take along a lunch package

When to go. This hike is recommended March-November
