You will walk through a small underpass underneath the B31.You might have noticed and heard the noise from the highway B31 for a while. This is Bundesstrasse 31 – a very busy highway running from Freiburg into the Black Forest mountains.

At signpost (8) Steigenhaus we recommend to enter the house called Steigenhaus to use the public toilets or have a look at the cuckoo clocks sold (enter the store, turn right, pass by the cuckoo clocks, then take the stairs to the lower level to get to the toilets).Then go back to signpost (8) Steigenhaus and continue on direction Hofgut Sternen which means you will walk by the large cuckoo clock heading towards the hotel.

Ski Jump Adlerschanze

Adlerschanze ski jumps tower over Hinterzarten. These ski jumps speak to the importance of the Black Forest to winter sports. This facility serves a central role in the training of Germany’s national ski jumping team. The first jump was built in 1924. The estate belonged to the restaurant "Adlerwirt" and accordingly, the hill is called Adler-Schanze. The ski-jump stadium today is called Adler Ski Stadium and has 3 ski jumps. It is located behind Hotel Adler. Interested in touring the ski jump stadium? Public tours (in German) are given on Thursdays and Sundays at 11 AM between May and end of September. Call ahead to make a reservation or to confirm times. Tel. +49 7652 12060. Cost: 5 EurosWant to watch some ski jumping? Training takes place all year around, a few days per week, usually in the late afternoon. Take a walk to the stadium and maybe you are lucky to visit while they are training!
