Fulton Post Office

Address: 214 S 1st St, Fulton, NY 13069The Fulton Post Office was constructed in 1915 at the Corner of South First Street and East Broadway. It was designed by James Knox Taylor who was the Supervisor Architect of the United States Department of Treasury, he was the architect on multiple buildings around New York State. This building looks very similar today compared to what it looked like when it was built. In the lobby there is a mural painted by Caroline S. Rohland named "Father Le Moyne Trying to Convert the Indians on Pathfinder Island". This building was listed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1989.

J.W. Pratt House Museum

Address: 177 South First Street, Fulton New York, 13069This organization was established in 1979, and is dedicated to the preservation of Fulton and adjacent towns of Granby and Volney. The kitchen has been restored to show how the family lived in 1861. The upstairs has many permanent exhibits including local industries, sports, education, and transportation. This was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. Its main goals are to:1. Acquire and preserve significant artifacts, publications, and other archival material of local interest.2. Maintain as much of the historical integrity of the Pratt House as possible, while leaving space for historical exhibits.3. Provide historical and genealogical resources for researchers and interested members of the general public.4. Fulton Public Library

Address: 160 South 1st St. Fulton, NY 13069The Fulton Public Library was built in 1905, it was designed and built with funds provided by Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie helped fund over 3000 libraries during his life and funded Fulton with $15,000 dollars for the building to be built. The books that were used to start this library came from the Falley Seminary, which was a school in Fulton that closed in 1883. This building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. In 2012 the library started a project called the "Fulton Memoir Project" that has now led to 6 published books about the City of Fulton. Website URL: https://fultonpubliclibrary.org/

Veteran Memorial Park

Address:100-152 South First Street, Fulton New York, 13069Veterens Park is a monument in honor of individuals from Fulton that were forced away from the city in the 1940's and 1950's, and on their way overseas to fight in the war. The Fulton Veterans Council puts on many events each year to honor veterans from the past. Later a book was published remembering many of the veterens from Fulton called "The Heart of Fulton at Home and Abroad: World War II and The Korean War", this book helps show what is was like the citizens of Fulton's families during these years of war.

Fulton Savings Bank

Address: 75 South First Street, Fulton New York, 13069Fulton Savings Bank started in 1871 when a group of civic bank leaders organized the bank to receive deposits from tradesman, clerks, mechanics, laborers, miners, servants, and others. The Bank was hit hard during the Civil War when 37% of the nations bank deposits were withdrawn, Fulton Savings bank stayed alive through this war. It also stayed alive during the Great Depression when many other banks failed in the United States. The bank has been able to stay alive because of the support the community has given. Today it has grown into a very important bank supporting many citizens of Fulton. It celebrated its 150th year of operation in 2021.

Ben Jerred Fulton Mural

Address: Parking lot next to the Salvation Army Building (62-64 S. First Street) near the canal in Fulton, NY.This mural was done by local artist Ben Jerred and is on the south side of the Salvation Army Building, in Fulton's Canal View business district. It celebrates the city history by depicting life on the Oswego Canal and paying tribute to the former L.C. Smith / Hunter Arms Company which is shown, across the canal, in the mural. The company made Hunter guns, L.C. Smith shotguns, the Hunter fan and Hunter bicycles. Note the canal boats in the mural as they head toward the lock on the Oswego Canal.

Lock #3

Lock 3 of the Oswego Barge Canal in Fulton opend in 1828. It has a 27 foot lift and is located behind the downtown area. Just south of the lock on the east side is a marina, which is owned and operated by the Village of Fulton. Two hydropower plants are adjacent to the lock. "The Lock", resturant was built on shore next to the lock giving the customers a view of the river and the lock.

Dizzy Block

Address: South First, Cayuga St, South Second, Oneida St.In the early 1900s, the city of Fulton was a booming industrial town. As more people moved to the area for the promise of a good job, businesses to support them like grocers, hardware stores, pharmacies, opened, many of them gathered in a one-block area of downtown Fulton. Since people tended to visit that part of our city to shop, it also became a social gathering spot. Diners opened up, as did ice cream shops and even theaters and opera houses. For decades, the Dizzy Block was the place to be in Fulton. Unfortunately these buildings were torn down, and rebuilt but there are many photos to remember the place to be in the early 1900's in Fulton NY.

Mirabito's Super Market.

Address: 524 Cayuga St, Fulton New York 13069This is one of many Mirabito Supermarket Stores throughout Fulton, starting in 1928 Ross and Frances Mirabito started a community supermarket on Erie Street. A few years later Ross and Frances acquired another store at this location on Cayuga St. These grocery stores were built on community relationships, and used local vendors for their products. These markets were known as "Mom and Pop" stores which were family owned and really built relationships with the people buying their products. These stores supported the Fulton community in 2006 when it had to close its doors due to the business climate changing in cities like Fulton.

Vorhees Park

Address: Bordered by South Fourth Street, South Third Street, Buffalo Street and Academy Street in Fulton, NYThe oldest park in Fulton, which was donated by James and Martha Voorhees to the Village of Fulton in 1853, and established as a City of Fulton Park in 1933. In 2005, a new playground was installed to accommodate universal play. The park was used for many concerts and gatherings in its early existence. There is a Gazebo where most of these concerts took place on the grounds of the park.

The Soldiers and Sailors Monument

The Soldiers & Sailors Monument is located in Voorhees Park, the oldest park in Fulton. This Civil War memorial was erected by the Town of Volney in honor of their Union Soldiers and Sailors of 1861-1865. They served as part of the 147th New York Volunteers. Dedicated by the Daniel F. Schenck Post #241 Dept. of NY G.A.R. May 31, 1897.

4th Street School/ Falley Seminary

Address: 4th Street School Fulton, New York 13069Falley Seminary (1836-1883) was a school in Fulton, and was named after M. E. Falley who gifted the institution 3,000 dollars. It functioned as a preparatory school for girls, and was attended by locals and out of area boarding students. In 1942 the name changed to Fulton Academy and both boys and girls were allowed to enroll at the school. Falley Seminary was torn down, and rebuilt into a much larger school. For many years the new building on the property was Fulton High School, and an administrative building. The building is now closed.Famous Alumni: Candy Cumming (professional baseball player and creator of the curve ball), Esther Baker Steele (author, philanthropist).

Lee Memorial Hospital

Address: 408 Division St, Fulton, NY 13069The first hospital in Fulton opened in 1904 in a home on West 5th Street, before long a bigger facility was needed. In 1908, Victorine Lee of New York City donated the land as a memorial to her late husband, Brig. Gen. Albert Lindley Lee. This location was functioning until 1969 when Fulton needed a bigger facility once again. The new location was built just south of where the original Lee Memorial Hospital was erected.

Nestles Factory

The First Chocolate in North America was made in Fulton by Henri Nestle. Nestle opened his plant in 1900 to produce condensed milk and baby food. Later in 1908 he began the production of chocolate. Quickly Fulton became the birthplace of Nestles chocolate being the home of Crunch Bars, and Toll House Chocolate Chips. At the companies peak it had 1700 employees which made it a pivotal employer for the area. Nestles was open for 103 years, having a payroll of 22 million dollars a year for its employees. Because of manufacturing companies like Nestles Fulton became known as "the City the Great Depression missed". When the plant closed in 2003, 350 employees lost their jobs, hurting the economic standing of the city.

Seal Right

Address: 100 State St, Fulton, New York 13069Sealright’s history started in 1886, when a mill owner from Skaneateles, Forrest G. Weeks, formed the Oswego Falls Pulp and Paper Company. Along came Dr. Wilbur Wright and Eugene Skinner, who bought the company from Weeks and formed the Sealright Container Company in 1917. At first, the factory focused on goods like milk bottle caps and megaphones, but the product development department regularly tested innovative ideas, and by the 1930s Sealright had patented a process to plastic coat paper containers. In 1983, the 450 Sealright employees banded together to purchase the company from Phillips. But economic times were tough, and finally the local plant was purchased by Huhtamaki, a company from Finland. Today Huhtamaki is big economically for Fulton, producing 600 well-paid jobs.

Fort Bradstreet

Address: Located at the corner of S. First Street and E. Broadway Ave in Fulton (near Lock 2 of the Oswego Barge Canal).This historical marker is located in the Village of Fulton near where the old Fort Bradstreet was located. If you were traveling the Oswego River some 240 years ago, you would see a grand fort on the east side of the Oswego River where the current Huhtamaki factory is located today. The British built the fort in the early years of the French and Indian War. The fort was one of many built to protect the British supply route from Albany to Oswego from French and Native American attacks. The fort was constructed in a star shape, consisting of retrenchments with a ditch and a block house in the center. The fort was occupied between 1759 and 1767. The ditches that were part of the fort were visible until the construction of the Oswego Canal in 1828. It was also an Iroquois Indian burial ground before Fort Bradstreet was constructed and was a portage area between 1600-1828.
