Discover historical and current sources of housing insecurity in our community with this tour. We define gentrification as a profit driven, racial and class reconfiguration of urban, working class communities of color. This is the end result of redlining, segregation, white flight, predatory lending, disinvestment and abandonment. Gentrification turns communities into commodities, allowing land speculators to make millions by extracting wealth from poor residents. Cleveland’s Near West Side was one of the first neighborhoods to become gentrified, providing decades of evidence for us to examine.

Free Parking can be found behind the West Side Market, with entrances on West 24th St. and Lorain Avenue. If that lot is full, free street parking is usually available on Bridge and Fulton.
