Central Market
The first place of the tour is Central Market. It was built in 1939. The building was abandoned in 2003. After some work for preservation, the market reopened to the public in 2021. It is located between Jubilee Street, Queen Victoria Street, Queen's Road Central and Des Voeux Road Central. The building was in Streamline Modern style and had the first female toilet in Hong Kong. It is a Grade 3 historic building.
Stone Slabs Street
The second place of the tour is Stone Slabs Street. It is called Stone Slabs Street since it is paved unevenly by granite stone steps. The official name of the street is Pottinger Street. The street is on the slope between Queen's Road Central and Hollywood Road. It was named in 1858 after Henry Pottinger, the first Governor of Hong Kong, who served from 1843 to 1844. It is a Grade I historic building.
Tai Kwun
The third place of the tour is Tai Kwun. Tai Kwun is composed of three declared monuments: Central Police Station, Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison. After revitalization, it was redeveloped into a cultural and shopping destination and opened to the public in 2018.Central Police Station: The oldest structure within the police station was built in 1864, a three-storey barrack block. A storey was later added to the block in 1905. Therefore, it has four-storey nowadays. In 1919, Headquarters Block facing Hollywood Road was constructed. The buildings were built in the Victorian Colonial style. The police station was decommissioned in 2004.Central Magistracy: It was constructed in 1914, located on Arbuthnot Road. The building was built in Greek-revival style. It housed two courtrooms and opened for its first hearing in April 1915. It was decommissioned in 1979.Victoria Prison: It was the first and longest-running prison to date in Hong Kong. It is located on Old Bailey Street. The oldest building of the prison was completed on 4 August 1841, known as Victoria Goal, and was renamed Victoria Prison in 1899. It was decommissioned in 2006.
Lascar Row
The last place of the tour is Lascar Row. It is located between Hollywood Road and Queen's Road Central. In Cantonese, it is called 摩羅街. It is also called Antiques Street and Cat Street.
