The Reid House - A Haliburton Heritage HomeRossana Deweyoil on canvas, 14.5"x 12.25"$385 Artist InspirationThe Reid House - A Haliburton Heritage Home was painted on site "en plein air". The home was built in 1882 by the Reid family and was originally situated in Haliburton village centre. After two generations it was sold in 1967 to the Haliburton Rotary Club to create a local museum. A few years later, it was relocated to its current site at Glebe park and restored to a period home. Renewal is born from the need to replace or repair something worn out or broken and the Reid house inspired a historic example of many renewals through the years.Artist BioRossana Dewey was born in Toronto and grew up with broad creative interests and enjoyed experimenting with various mediums. Today, she works out of her studio in Haliburton, Ontario working primarily in oils. She began painting after attending Sheridan College’s Continuing Education Fine Arts program. She later went on to further her studies at the Dundas Valley School of Art to pursue her interest in perceptual painting. Haliburton County Library - Dysart Branch hosting Annette Blady and Al Van Mil
KaleidoscapeAnnette Blady and Al Van Milmoulage, 48”x 48”$7000Artist's InspirationWith a vision of paintings that literally break free of the canvas, Blady and Van Mil invented "moulage" in the early days of the pandemic. It became their way holding onto positivity as the enormity of the crisis was revealed.“Rising from the Canvas” was their first collaboration on an entire series of artworks. Forty artworks celebrating 40 years together in life and art. To create each moulage, they purposely cut up many of there own prized works into small pieces. Reassembling these pieces into new works that represents change and renewal....something desperately needed today. Kaleidoscape is part of this series.Artist's BiosAl Van Mil was born on the Isle of Texel in the Netherlands, to a scholarly and artistic family. For most of the last 50 years he has created visual artworks using a large variety of canvases. Van Mil honed his technique as a performance artist, sharing the stage with many prominent musicians, dancers, and singers. Van Mil founded an architectural model making company named one of the top three in the world.Annette Blady was born in Toronto, and is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design. In the 80’s Blady partnered with Van Mil in an architectural model making company and rose to international prominence as an interior designer. Exhibiting internationally, Blady’s canvases can now be found in prompt galleries and private collections in Canada, United States and Europe. Her eclectic style uses textured exotic papers and fabrics, cut glass, and metallic acrylic, as mixed medically paintings. her 3D encaustic work, incorporating papers and fabric are totally unique and have sold internationally. Ethel Curry Gallery hosting Jane Selbie
Cycle of LifeJane Selbiefabric, 22"x 24"$550 (+HST)Artist InspirationCycle of Life is created from fabric. It is dry mounted on foam core and framed in a diamond presentation complete with off-set glass. The renewal theme provided me with a solution to a puzzle I’ve had for over a dozen years! For me renewal is synonymous with the concept of transformation. Here’s the background: When I found an antique scarf radiating butterflies I always envisioned incorporating a Monarch butterfly to properly honour the unusual design. My technique involves many layers of fabric incorporating liquid adhesive but it just wouldn’t work to attach such a large swath of this gossamer material (requiring no stretching or twisting). Experimenting with a spray glue on the base material I floated the fabric into place like the landing of a butterfly….no second chances were possible. Having invented the fabric layering technique over 20 years ago experimentation is always a way to solve a new challenge. The transformation of a Monarch butterfly through each stage of its life cycle seems to underline a theme of renewal. So, too, my scarf is transformed and given another life. Viva la recycling!Artist BioJane Selbie lives and creates in Haliburton, Ontario. Her fabric art-based practice is an exploration of nature, in which she engages in an artistic process that is both conceptual and material. In the early years, while developing her technique, she experimented with the fabric medium through quilting, wall hangings and original designs. Over the last fifteen years, Jane’s artistry has developed into the work of a master artist. Her multi-layered fabric renderings of the Canadian landscape and “as found in nature” themes are as evocative and skillful as the work of the most successful of landscape painters. Jane’s artistic alchemy turns fabric into breathtaking and beautifully nuanced works of art. Jane has worked as a full-time professional fabric artist since 2008 and her work is displayed in galleries and in private collections in Canada and worldwide. She has also taught fabric art at the Haliburton School of the Arts for many years and conducts private workshops. The Selbie gallery and studio continues to be open by chance or appointment year round, just outside the village of Haliburton on the way to the Sculpture Forest. www.jselbie.com for map, 87 Bayshore Rd. Haliburton Highlands Museum hosting Marie Gage
A Ring of PromisesMarie Gagenovel$20Artist StatementRenewal is at the very core of this work of historical fiction inspired by a true story. Will is forced to fight against contrary forces as he struggles to build a new life in Canada for the woman he loves. Century-old letters found in an attic reveal the 1912 story of Will, a lowly footman to an Earl in England, and Janet, a nanny to a Lord and Lady in the Highlands of Scotland. They knew their hearts but were separated by distance and duty: Will in England, Janet in the Highlands of Scotland. Desperate to find a way to be together, Will gives up everything he knows and sets sail to find a new home with only $25 in his pocket and a dream. The expected short separation was not to be. This gripping and heartfelt story traces their journeys, in back-and-forth chapters between Canada and the Highlands of Scotland, as they struggle with the help of Janet’s sister Mary Ann, to overcome the obstacles threatening their dreams. When tragedy strikes, Will is left to pick up the pieces with the help of Janet’s sister Mary Ann leading to renewal of a very different kind of love. A Ring of Promises is the debut novel of local author Marie Gage (6” by 9” with 441 pages). WebsiteArtist BioMarie Gage's writing is inspired by real people. Stares hosting Laurie O'Reilly
Almost AloneLaurie O'Reillymixed media collage/oil painting/poetry on ply, 22”x 26”$900.00.Artist InspirationThis piece was painted in early April 2020. It was a time of fear, loneliness and depression. We were told not to go for walks, not to visit with anyone who didn’t live in our house, not to go for a drive or a boat ride because if we had an accident there would be no first responders who could get to us. We were isolated, our elderly parents were isolated and our children and friends were isolated. This piece speaks to those feelings of isolation and loss. The words of the poem began to fade and that seemed appropriate. However, two and a half years later, we are visiting with our children our aging parents and our friends. The birds are back. The sun is shining and the river and lakes call. We know that things are not back to normal but the opportunities for renewed; contact with friends and family and joy of outdoor exploration, feel like a renewal of spirit and hope and this painting reminds me of the journey that we took to get here.Artist BioI was raised, in Niagara Falls and Toronto. As a young adult, after a parochial education bereft of art, and rife with discipline, I traveled extensively, seeing the world and participating in other cultures. Returning to Canada I received a BSc, from Guelph University, which gave me hands on experience in form, function, physiology and ecology. A minor in Fine Art helped me develop some of my technical skills. I have participated in 3 curated gallery shows, juried shows, city sponsored exhibitions, local gallery exhibitions and studio tours. I have lectured on encaustic practices, run workshops, and contributed to a U.S. juried art publication. My art is narrative driven. After portraying children, and youth, as vulnerable members of society, I have begun observing our planet with a similar sensibility.I am an observer; by using paint, mixed media, and constructs, I become a story teller. Telling stories compels me to problem solve. Whether my mind wants to solve emotional or intellectual problems, or my hands want to solve construction puzzles, the need to problem solve drives my sensibilities, my thinking and my narrations. When, what I am observing in the present, whether vulnerable members of society or fragile ecosystems, meshes with my past life experiences, I am motivated to devise artistic methods that can help me work through the angst that these overlaps bring to the fore, and tell the stories that I see and feel.https://www.brushandpen.ca/Staresis located in the Johnson Establishment on Dorset’s main street. Winter BouquetKathleen Dewarleather on canvas, 11"x 18"$400Artist InspirationA gift of renewal:This unique artistic creation crafted from leather evokes memories of sitting by summer gardens reminding us of our connection to Earth and our love of Nature. A personal space where we find solace and renewal.“Winter Bouquet” offers you flowers in winter!Shaping this vision took careful planning and a defined process. Step by careful step, I assembled each flower carefully, layering petals and leaves with the use of precision tools and patience; a deliberate and painstaking procedure. I often felt like I was putting a puzzle together one piece at a time. The rich dark brown background reminds us of seeds planted in the deep earth waiting for spring.A renewal of hope and love are captured in this bouquet. From a small bud, flowers of all varieties and colours bloom gifting us with beauty and joy, then they rest, and bloom once more as perfect as the first time. A reminder to us all that we can be renewed too!I offer you “Winter Bouquet” full of personality, warmth and colour. Enjoyhttp://www.earthsbeauty.ca/Artist BioI love the challenge of crafting leather into landscapes and designs inspired by nature. To honour animals, I transform their gift into art. I imagine, I plan and I design every piece as a unique picture, transforming leather into distinctive, vibrant and personal images that run deep in my imagination from time spent in nature growing up in the countryside. I still live in the country which continues to bring inspiration to my imagination. For fun I craft works of whimsy incorporating shapes, a wide variety of colours and just for fun I mix in textures for added depth!!I have a series I call “Moon and Stars” so you can hold a wish for yourself or a loved one.The warmth of my artwork adds beauty to any room. Dorset Heritage Museum hosting Anne Bailey
PERSEPHONE - QUEEN OF THE UNDERWORLD, GODDESS OF SPRINGAnne Baileyacrylic on canvas, 16”x 20”$375Artist InspirationImagine lifting the lid of your BBQ and finding a drey of newborn red squirrels, or looking up and seeing a nest of robins, or a fawn, or crocuses, trilliums, daffodils, tulips, berries rising from the barely thawed earth….what is happening here? It is Spring. And with Spring comes RENEWAL. The renewal of life’s cycle. In Greek Mythology there are many symbolic gods…..PERSEPHONE being one. She is the inspiration of my colourful painting depicting the theme of RENEWAL.The tale of Persephone and Hades is one of bad and good. Bad, in that Hades swept Persephone to the Underworld to be his Queen. When Demeter, her mother, discovered Persephone was missing and could not find her, she created a great drought on the earth to force the gods to return her. And so a deal was made with Zeus, Persephone’s father, and Hades, that for the 6 winter months of the year Persephone would live in the Underworld with Hades and the other 6 spring/summer months she would live on earth. Thus the good. When Persephone returns to the earth each spring she brings life, rebirth and renewal with her, making the lands flourish and prosper.Artist BioAnne Bailey was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. As an inner city kid, she always enjoyed her arts and crafts classes at her local Community Parks and Recreation Center. Rhubarb Restaurant hosting Sophie Creelman
AwakenSophie Creelmanacrylic on canvas, 40"x 30"$800 Artist InspirationRenewal contains the idea of giving fresh life or a restored strength. This artwork is an abstract depiction of a visual representation of strength and perseverance, which correlates to the idea of revival. Darkness surrounds the canvas of this abstract landscape and larger gestural brushstrokes create feelings of turbulence and disorder. However the movement of the light overtaking the darkness allows the viewer to receive the idea of hope. The way light falls on an object has always fascinated me. In paintings, I strive to capture the interesting effect that light plays on the subject. The gold leaf detail not only works as a literal glimmer and capture of light, but also evokes the conception of new ideas within us that allows us to create change and start again with whatever form of darkness we are enduring. This piece can be seen as a revival and new beginnings on the horizon after a tumultuous storm, whether that is seen in nature’s landscape or the metaphorical storm found within an individual after a challenging period.Artist BioSophie is a contemporary painter whose love of nature and architecture is expressed on her canvases. Born and raised in Haliburton Ontario her interest in art began at a young age thanks to an encouraging family and artistic community. She has showcased her work in galleries and shows throughout Ontario and sold pieces across Canada. After studying fine art and art history at university Sophie returned to Haliburton where she currently resides and creates paintings in the place she finds most inspiring -the Haliburton Highlands. Her artwork focuses primarily on high detailed cityscapes and abstract paintings which break down landscapes into their simplest line and form, reducing a scene to its essentials. These paintings focus on mood and create a sense of place rather than being literal depiction of an area. Although there are many styles to her art, Sophie's aim is to create pieces that incorporate the small details found in our bustling world and capture intimate details that most might overlook at first glance.Rhubarb Restaurant is a casual fine dining restaurant in beautiful Haliburton County. We proudly strive to use predominantly local ingredients and source our products all from Ontario. We have an extensive wine list along with local craft beer, cider and creative cocktails.Visit our market store for fresh bread, cheese and gourmet treats.Open year roundReservations highly recommended

Home RenewalJacqueline Halupkaacrylic on canvas, 11"x 14"$120Artist InspirationThe theme of Renewal made me think of so many things, from the Spring renewal of nature to the renewal of self through continuous self-development. I turned to the work we were doing on our property and realized that re-painting a building is itself a kind of renewal. It wakes us up to the possibilities of what we can change in life as well as the beauty of colour. This little painting shows the renewal of an old garage.Artist BioI have been drawing and painting since I was little, but took a hiatus of over 30 years during my career as an information professional. A few years ago I picked up where I’d left off, exploring different approaches to landscapes, figure drawing and painting as well as stained glass mosaics. I work mostly with acrylic paints, but also dabble with oils. There is so much to learn and so many directions to follow in art. I keep working at it in my beautiful lakeside studio and continuously benefit from various art classes.Jacqueline Halupka is an artist based in Haliburton, working with acrylics as well as stained glass mosaics. Haliburton Highlands Brewing hosting Renée Woltz
Stardust Renée Woltzceramic, 260 mm diameter x 100 mm tallNFSStardust Description: Wheel thrown PSH Sheba Raku clay, brushed slip and glaze, propane fired Raku, smoking for reductionShadow Crackle Raku is a technique in which a layer of raw clay, called slip, followed by a thin layer of glaze is applied onto a bisque fired pot. In the Raku kiln the slip and glaze shrink more than the pot itself and when the pot is placed onto the combustible material in the reduction pit, carbon is infused into the surface of the pot through the cracks created by the shrinking coating. This coating is peeled off once the pot has cooled, revealing a network of soft lines. In the case of this pot, the layer of slip and glaze began to release from the pot early, inside the reduction chamber, allowing carbon to form unique patterns that resemble the stardust from which the pot itself is made.Artist InspirationThis pot is a reminder that we are all made from ethereal elements in a universe that is constantly renewing itself, reassembling the cosmic dust into ever-more wondrous creations.Artsist BioRenée Woltz has been a resident of the Haliburton Highlands since 2011. Originally from Southwestern Ontario, her love of clay began while she was studying visual art at the University of Windsor. Inspired by the beauty of her surroundings in her home studio on Lake Kashagawigamog Renée has focused on a style of work that involves intricate incising into the walls of wheel-thrown pots. She has always been drawn to Raku, a method of firing based on ancient Japanese traditions now widely known for its North American variation in which pots are bisque fired, glazed, then re-fired outdoors in a propane fueled kiln. Pots are removed from the kiln at temperatures of approximately 1,000 degrees Celsius and placed into a nest of combustible material. When the heat of the pots ignites the material, the pots are covered with metal containers to deprive the fire of air. This creates interesting metallic and crackle effects. After taking the Advanced Raku course at the Haliburton School of Art + Design, Renée constructed a raku kiln at her studio. She now combines her style of delicately carved pottery with the dramatic effects of Raku to create a unique body of work. Renée’s artwork has been exhibited throughout Ontario and can be found at the Ethel Curry Gallery, the Rails End Gallery, in the Tour de Forest studio tour on the August long weekend, and in the Haliburton Highlands Studio Tour on the first two weekends of October.https://reneewoltz.wixsite.com/halikashpotteryHaliburton Highlands Brewing is an award winning micro-brewery producing handcrafted, premium ales as fresh and natural as the Highlands that inspire them! Truss Foodworks - Haliburton Forest hosting Mary Intven Wallace
Round the River BendMary Intven Wallaceacrylic on canvas, 20"x 30”$900Artist InspirationThe Kennisis River in the Algonquin Highlands of Haliburton is a place of renewal. It’s where I am inspired to create many of my paintings that honour our beautiful natural surroundings. Here you can breathe in the clean air of the summer sky, notice the trees bending toward you as their roots dig deep, their limbs reaching up. In a canoe or kayak you can glide along this clear water world, traveling over submerged ancient pathways of sand. You will see shimmering silver fins as they race beside streaming supple mermaid hair rooted in the dark depths below. If you balance yourself and meld with the fluid movement round the river bend, you may come upon a moose feasting on the river grasses. Pause and breathe in great gratitude for the magic of this magnificent moment.Artist BioMary began painting after her first magical trip to Algonquin Park half a century ago. Her enduring enthusiasm for Canada’s land continues to flourish, especially when she paints at her woodland studio in the Algonquin Highlands. Honouring the intrinsic balance and beauty of the natural world is a consistent theme in her work. The luminous colours in her paintings conjure connections to the dynamic energy of land, sea, and sky. Her vibrant artworks grace public and private collections around the world, winning awards such as the International White Raven Award and the National Outdoor Book Award.Email: intven.wallace@sympatico.caWebsite: www.maryintvenwallaceartist.com/Facebook: www.facebook.com/maryintvenwallaceartist/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/maryintven/______________________________________________________________________________Truss Foodworks Truss is a rustic style smokehouse. MajesticLynda Moffattartist's proof on dibond, 20”x 30”$450Artist InspirationThis painting Majestic, represents the first painting in my Signature Series “Algonquin Adventure’s”Making the trek up to Algonquin, Highlands every year sometimes several times a year. My husband Kevin and I would enjoy this area so much with its massive land, abundant lakes and all the creatures that call it their home.During our adventures, we would do just that adventure. As well, I would take some time to sketch and this quickly turned into painting en plein aire. As soon as I would see something inspiring, we’d stop right away and off I’d go!We sure have seen some amazing places and creatures. The day we saw Majestic come out of the deep woods to eat in this abundant flora, I knew I was hooked. This painting began! Respectfully observing our chance encounter, no one else around for miles, in total bliss. We began, documenting with sketches, pictures, videos and short writings of where we saw this wonderful creature.Taking notes on what we noticed about him most and what we would enjoy to share. We felt renewal of mind as he could live on with our story telling, pictures and paintings. Hence, the series grew with each passing sighting. Our blog was created and our hope is that you too feel renewed while enjoying each of these animals’ stories and learn more about them along the way. Highlands East Visitor Information Centre hosting Chuck Lewis
Wild AstersChuck Lewisoil on canvas, 11”x 14”$375Artist InspirationThe reason I painted these wild asters was because on my drive to Haliburton the abundance of nature’s wildflowers along the shoulders of the road with all their natural beauty made me want to stop and take a closer look. So, I stopped, got out of the car and stood at the side of the road admiring the colours and nature’s natural composition. The arrangements and colours of the plants were naturally complementary to each other. They inspired me to paint. As a result, I now have about eight-to-ten paintings of roadside wildflowers.Artist StatementMoonlit lakes, light in the forest, a tree in the wilderness, nature in her beauty and serenity painted in oils on canvas…..local and foreign scenes of nature and historic sites and structures drawn in detail in Sepia and India inks, sometimes with the added beauty of watercolour. These are my passions. I choose a scene because nature has created a unique combination of colour, composition, structure and perspective that appeal to me. Scenes of structures are selected because their distinctive construction, history, or general perspective enhance the specific scene I have chosen. Works in such real life situations must, in my opinion, be detailed to hold the viewer’s attention and to make every viewing a new experience. If people indicate that they feel they can walk through a scene and discover new details in the work every time, then I have accomplished what I set out to do.Artist BioMy art, much of which has been inspired through extensive travels all over the world, is displayed in private collections in Canada and internationally and has been published in “Artists of Algonquin” and “Artists of the Highlands”. Haliburton County Library - Wilberforce Branch hosting Sheila Ziman
Natural CapacitySheila Zimanwillow bark container, 12.5”x 12.5”$95Artist InspirationBecause the natural world is often front and centre in my life, “Renewal” immediately conjured up nature’s life cycles. I heard about the project just as the lands and waters in Haliburton County were awakening to spring. One of the first signs of spring for me are pussy willows. I knew I wanted to incorporate these furry delights into a piece. The “window” in the container holds the shape of a diamond, the form of the human birth canal and in some North American First Nations represents new beginnings. The willow bark container uses the basketry techniques of plaiting and stitching. Including the pussy willow embellishments it is 30cm tall and 12cm wide.Artist BioSheila is a founding member of the Haliburton Highlands Land Trust and a present board director. Her work reflects her environment where she draws inspiration and materials from the surrounding woods, fields, and waters. She is particularly interested in experimenting with materials gathered from nature to produce baskets or sculptural pieces using a variety of basketry techniques. Kids PlayJacqueline Morin-Prousacrylic on canvas, 24"x 24"$600 SOLDArtist InspirationRenewal – an instance of resuming an activity or state after an interruption…This painting called Kids Play captures the moment where memories are made and renewed every summer. We missed it last year, but we’ve got it back this summer. The whiff of “cottage air’.The cool water on that first jump into the lake. The first card game of the year. The visit of family you haven’t seen for a year. The laughter. The feel of sunshine. This composition captures renewal to me. We can hear the splash. It refreshes us. It makes us remember. It makes us smile. It makes us happy. It brings back great memories and renews our spirits.Artist BioLiving in Irondale, Ontario, Jacqueline Kimberly Morin is a self-taught artist who has played with acrylic paint and brushes all her life. She loves working with her hands. Her passion truly lies in 'The Art of Creating'. Since launching her full-time career as an artist in 2018, Jacqueline has participated in various juried shows, including the Society of Canadian Artists. Her first paddle creation was published in a magazine article. This was the inspirational event that kicked her artistic career forward. Her subject matter and medium may vary since she paints what attracts her eye and makes her smile. To spark her creativity, she captures life through the lens of her camera and collaborates with other artists.Artist StatementMy paintings are inspired by an image that triggers an emotion; a look or a scene that brings back memories. What I aim to capture in my painting is that feeling or mood. I may work each section of a painting two or three times until I feel I have achieved the desired detail. This process evolves over several days and sometimes even weeks. Once completed, I like to give it time to do its thing and grab my attention. Dominion Hotel Pub hosting Susan Hay
Spring Comes to the HighlandsSusan Hayacrylic on canvas, framed46”x 30” $1500Artist InspirationThis piece is an abstractified, stylized interpretation of the season of renewal and of hope in the Haliburton Highlands. During the pandemic, I have taken the opportunity to explore some new techniques and styles so in a sense, I am seeking renewal and rejuvenation in a new style of painting. When spring comes to the Highlands of Haliburton, there is a certain magic as the buds open to reveal fresh new leaves and the sweetest tinge of green becomes visible especially when viewed from a distance. The dark green of black spruce contrasts with the fresh, pale green on the deciduous trees. This is the season of renewal and of hope and rebirth. The winter snow has receded. The sound of a trickle, sometimes the roar of melt water gives way to the arrival of songbirds, now searching for a mate with the most melodious of songs. Artist BioI am most inspired by the tranquil, natural wilderness found along Ontario’s shorelines and by rural scenery. I love to paint water so that it looks wet and light so that it glows; the overall effect being that my landscapes sparkle with vitality. I have been a regular exhibitor in the Haliburton Arts Community and took part in the Tour de Forest Studio Tour each Civic Holiday weekend for 9 years. My work is for sale at the Ethel Curry Gallery and the Rails End Gallery in Haliburton, as well as at my studio on Wenona Lake about 15 min. east of the village of Haliburton. More of my work and my contact information is available at www.susanhay.ca. Being able to capture the beauty of our County in a way that speaks to the viewer has been very satisfying for me. HopeJanice Archeroil on birchwood,16”x 14”Best offer over $250 with funds going to World Vision for The Children of Ukraine.Artist InspirationThe news about the invasion of Ukraine kept breaking day after day - devastating news blasting out over our world, I found I just could not escape these pictures of horror via Internet, television and newspapers, to name a few media. The destruction, the burnt buildings left gaping at the photographers, the trashed cars, and bodies day after day, and it is still happening as I wrote! My feelings just poured out of me via my paintbrush, and all the time I was thinking that only a vile “agent of Satan” could think up and orchestrate such evil.As I was painting these charred buildings of gaping horror, I wondered how children are surviving all over Ukraine and decided to offer the proceeds of this painting. To make an offer, call Janice Archer @ 226-376-3237 or email Janicedarcher@gmail.com.This painting is called “HOPE”. Oxtongue Craft Cabin & Gallery hosting Greg Gillespie
Ruby-throated Hummingbird on Blue-bead LilyGreg Gillespiecarving - tupelo, black walnut, brass, paper, acrylicNFS at the present timeArtist InspirationWith all due respect to those folks who embrace the season of snow, for me there is nothing that renews the spirit more than the return of our summer birds after a long cold winter. Many bird lovers are particularly excited to see the season’s first hummingbirds. These tiny birds travel more than 3200 kilometers from their winter range in Central America to reach their breeding grounds in Ontario, and can fly non-stop for up to 800 kilometers at a time. While they do not have to worry about COVID, their life journey is fraught with many other dangers, from avian diseases to accidents, predators, and bad weather. As they have done for many thousands of years, all wildlife must strive to overcome the hardships that must be endured for the good of their species and the continued renewal of their kind. This adult male Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) is perched upon a Blue-bead Lily (Clintonia borealis). The bird’s body and wings are carved from tupelo. The eyes are glass and the feet are fabricated from brass wire, silver solder and epoxy. With the exception of the blue beads, which are wood, all other parts of the plant are metal. Both the bird and the plant are painted with acrylics.Artist BioGreg is a world class fine art wood artist that has been producing wildfowl wood sculpture for the past 40 years.
