Welcome!
Welcome to the Honors College and Residences at Purdue. This is the home of the Honors College as well as a place for Honors College students to live.
Cosi
Cosi is a retail space in the Honors College and Residences. Students can use part of their meal plan at Cosi as well as additional forms of payment. Along with serving wonderful food options all day long, Cosi has a hearth with an open flame that represents the Honors College Torch burning all day long. Even when Cosi closes for the evening, the seating area is left open to students to fulfill academic and social needs.
Innovation Forum
The innovation forum is a space designed to cultivate and exhibit student work. Partially designed and conceived from Honors College students in the Spark Lab class in Spring 2016, this space serves as a interactive location for students to be exposed to various projects within the Honors College. Look around at the current displays. The floor and space itself is actually reinforced to allow flexibility in the exhibits even to support a prototype car or our Boilermaker Extra Special that can be brought in through the window “garage door” directly flanking the space.
Honors Hall & Courtyard
Honors Hall is the gem of the Honors College. Its huge glass doors will welcome you into a great hall with the likeness of many famous great halls throughout the country, which are also based on the British educational system. All of the wood that makes up the tables and chairs lining the hall is Indiana sourced. The Honors College hosts many of its large events in this space, from dances to election watch parties. It has amazing flexibility with three projector screens hidden in the ceiling and a stage at the front of the hall. This space is open as a study area for all of campus on a daily basis. Take a look out the windows of Honors Hall to see the couryard and firepit. The Honors College and Residences Courtyard provides a wonderful space for students to get fresh air all year long. The majority of plantings in the courtyard and all around the HCR are Indiana native, as sustainability is something very important to the Honors College. The centerpiece of the courtyard is the fire pit, a visual representation of the Honors College torch, that can be lit all year long for students, staff, and faculty to gather around.
Honors Advisor Offices & Learning Studios
All of our advisors hold office hours here, allowing students to visit them and make sure they are on track with their Honors curriculum. On the other side of the hallway you will notice two of our four classrooms we call “learning studios.” Each one of these studios is equipped with movable tables and chairs to allow for any kind of set up professors see most fitting. There are also four monitors in each room, allowing for customized learning in group work and discussion. After class times, you will often find students studying and conducting group meetings in these studios.
Computer Collaboratory
The computer collaboratory is a wonderful resource for Honors students providing a computer workspace, collaborative space, and accessible printer. As interdisciplinary collaboration is encouraged in the Honors College, this space allows groups of many different majors to come together and work. The WeWatt bikes in the collaboratory also provide a space for students to get a little exercise in, help the environment by pedaling to power their device, and work!
Community Living Room & Kitchen
In the lobby of the Honors College south building, you will find a large living room. You will see students meetings and study groups utilizing the many work spaces provided here. As the night sets in, you will also notice the Honors community come to life in this space. Friends will gather to watch sports or shows on the television provided. There is plenty of space to lounge and unwind after a long day of classes, while still allowing for late night projects to take up work space. Across from the living room, you will find the Community Kitchen. All students are allowed full access to this room whenever they need. The kitchen also plays host to the Dean of the Honors College on occasion, who offers “Cooking with the Dean.” Students show up to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with the Dean and some good food!
NISO Offices
NISO stands for the National and International Scholarships Office. NISO, which is part of the Purdue University Honors College, is here for all Purdue students. They serve to assist students and alumni as they apply for highly selective national and international awards. You can see the display of current awardees next to the learning studio.
STEAM Lab
This space allows us for a wide variety of classes and programs which were previously unavailable. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts/Agriculture, and Math, incorporating the full breadth of the interdisciplinary experience. The space is purposely distinct to allow flexibility to be a wet or dry work area for more hands on experiences and design. Incorporating a similar style to the learning studios, a large variety of classes and events are hosted in this area as well. In the back right corner there is a 1959 Vandercook printing press that students have the opportunity to utilize course work and special projects.
Residential Floor
The residential communities are unique in design and interaction. The residential floors are situated in a pod style community where 5-7 rooms are clustered together and share a bathroom. This style allows for a more close-knit community on a smaller scale that also extends to the whole floor giving residents a unique type of community with which to interact. The bathrooms are both small community bathrooms as well as single person unisex bathrooms to allow for flexibility in privacy and personal preference. Each floor also features three large lounges in the central part of the building allowing for specifically designed study and social spaces. The floors in the North building boast an additional four lounges (2 per wing) that allow for more dedicated interactive spaces for the residents to utilize. Overall, the residential floors were purposely designed to cultivate a vibrant community among students with single, double, triple, and quad style rooms to accommodate our residents.
