Oyster Kiosk

Main Street Boat RampCR 349 and SE 225 Street29.3305075, -83.1433769Oysters support an important fishery in the Suwannee area, providing food, jobs, and ecosystem services (for example, water filtration). The oyster fishery began just 50 years ago and continues today. Oysters are harvested from natural reefs using long-handled tongs from small boats or by hand during extremely low “pick-up” tides. You can find both wild-harvested and aquacultured oysters for sale in local restaurants and fish houses. Make sure you find a way to enjoy these delicacies during your visit! At this ramp, you can watch boats returning from the Gulf loaded with sacks of freshly harvested oysters. Read the kiosk panel for more information about the fishery.
